"answering the exact question they were just asking" thats the type of YT content that works wonders. Most coaches miss this. they start their YT journey fighting for views, when their videos should just optimise for questions.

just voted. seems like most coaches get their clients through content. Am curious - which content? in my exp, its never the viral short / the trending video - its the one that answered the exact question that people are typing into YT. content structured this way: that's the lead gen nirvana
Shorts get the views. Long-form gets the clients.
We've known this for a while, but it's worth saying out loud again in 2026 because the noise around Shorts is louder than ever. Here's what's actually happening. Someone searching YouTube for help with their coaching business isn't scrolling for entertainment. They're on a mission. They're evaluating who knows what they're talking about. And a 10-15 minute video that answers the exact question they just typed in does something a Short never can, it builds the kind of trust that makes them want to reach out. One well-placed video targeting a real CAT Moment, a Challenge, Aspiration, or Transformation your ideal client is actively searching for, can still be generating inbound enquiries six months after you published it. Without you touching it. That's not a content strategy. That's an asset. Shorts have their place. But if you're a coach or consultant and your goal is qualified inbound leads - not views, long-form is still where the work gets done. What's your experience been? Are you seeing long-form convert better than short-form, or has something shifted for you recently?

what if, the issue isnt shorts vs long form, but its who the shorts are reaching? i see most coaches, they use shorts to chase views from the widest audience. But if you narrow it down, narrow down your audience to target the exact question your ideal client is typing into YouTube, we can get these intent-driven leads. let me tell you, when you do this - the short doesnt replace the long form, it feeds it.

@Des Dreckett love that. and im gonna take it one step further. the long-form videos that convert, its because they target a specific question that ideal clients are typing into YT. So - if coaches start with the keyword - & build both the long & short form around that same search intent - thats how YT compounds. the short would rank for the question, pull the right person in & the long form could close them.
