@Colette Tamilio I had good luck growing potatoes in milk crates last year. I also have grown them in sacks and in tomato cages full of straw with pretty good results. The milk crates looked the coolest so there's that haha

We are still in an apartment for now, so I have mostly container garden...but I also put stuff in the ground, I told maintenance I'll keep it looking nice they didn't care. I grew corn, tomatoes, okra, cucumbers, and herbs. I also planted passion flower vines along some fencing, an elder patch, some black cap raspberries and a patch of Jerusalem artichokes. I've also grown food forest style...im planning on doing that again in the new space.
What would you start?
If you knew you were about to have a lot more land to plant stuff what would you plant? What would you start winter sowing now?

@Jeanne Dickman oooh I love the idea of a seasonal you pick, my first food forest we had elder and persimmon picks in the fall...but I hadn't thought about incorporating it purposely, I just had an abundance. I love your ideas. And I love to hear others dreams too, it's just good fun conversation!

@Clarissa Steele one of our projects for the snow in was to tend to our elder propagations. ๐Ÿ’š I love beabalm so much, I make noodles with it and they are always a favorite
Signs of Life - Rosetts!
A basal rosette is a circular cluster of leaves growing low to the ground, radiating from a central point. This arrangement helps plants conserve energy, maximize sunlight absorption, trap warmth from the soil, and collect rainwater, allowing them to get a head start on growth, survive winter, and outcompete other plants. And I think they're so pretty ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒฑ .

Rosettes are a favorite plant shape for me too. You just can't help but look at it and feel connected to the earth, probably something about geometric patterns...whatever it is they are mesmerizing everytime
Free wood chips
In my area it's called Chip Drop but most places have a similar service. I sign up and get free wood chips delivered โ˜บ๏ธ it takes a few months and this is my second drop I got one in the spring last year. This one was double big ๐Ÿ˜‚ I will be spreading chips for weeks ๐Ÿ˜‚ https://my.getchipdrop.com/home/

I have used chip drop as well. It's totally awesome where it is available. I will add though I have had way more luck just flagging down mulch trucks and asking where they are dropping their load. Seriously a surprising amount of men will just follow you with their wood chips if you tell them you have a food forest, probably because they are curious to see what that is. Haha
Who Journals?๐Ÿ““๐Ÿ“š
Do you use a journal to keep yourself organized, process thoughts or get creative? Have you used a field journal to record observations while foraging or a nature journal at home to record your findings? Have you ever thought about journaling but just couldn't get started or stay consistent? Have you thought about the benefits of journaling? I'd love to hear y'alls thoughts on this. Let us know in the poll and share your experience in the comments.

You may have seen my plant medica on TikTok...it's pretty extensive but it should be I've been working on her for 15 years! I also have a mushroom one. Basically it's all the plants I encounter, things about them, how I used them, when they grow, when to harvest, I draw pictures and I add recipes. I have always been a jounraler...I have many filled to the brim and a few unfinished. They are in no order and make no sense. I do have certain journals from certain stages of my life that are just pieces of memories now. We unschool here and our task for the day was to journal.
