Shortwave vs regular Gmail with filters. shortwave looks amazing but is it worth the cost if you're managing multiple client inboxes?

I’ve seen Shortwave on YouTube and it looks sooo clean 😭 But $9/month feels a bit scary when I’m not even earning yet… is Gmail filters + labels enough in the beginning? Or does Shortwave actually save that much time?
Anyone else find it hard to switch off after work when you're working from home?
My laptop is literally always right there and I feel guilty every time I close it before everything on my list is done 😅 I know logically that I need to stop at some point but when you work for yourself there's always something else you could be doing. I've tried setting a hard stop time but then a client messages and I feel like I have to reply straight away or they'll think I'm unreliable. starting to feel like I'm always half-working and never fully off. does anyone actually manage to properly switch off or is this just part of freelance life? if you've figured this out I genuinely need to know what you did.

I feel this already and I’ve barely started 😅 Do clients expect instant replies all the time??
okay tiny win but
I asked Claude to help me write my own service description and it came out WAY better than what i had before. sometimes you just need a second brain lol

haha I felt this 😅 I tried using AI for my bio too but it sounded kinda robotic… did you tweak it a lot after or was it good to go?
For anyone who's raised their rates what was the moment you realised you were undercharging?
Mine was seeing someone in a Facebook group post their rate for the exact same services I was offering and it was literally double what I was charging. same deliverables, same turnaround, just way more confidence in how they positioned it. I'd been telling myself my rate was "competitive" but really I was just scared. started tracking my hours properly around that time and realised one of my retainer clients was costing me more time than the rate made sense for. raised it the next month and she didn't even hesitate. curious what the wake-up moment was for other people was it seeing someone else's rate, a client comment, or just finally doing the math?

I haven’t even charged my first client yet 😅 but this lowkey scares me… how do you know what’s a fair starting rate?
Okay maybe dumb question but… how are you guys actually finding your first client? 😅
I’ve been learning tools like ChatGPT + Canva, even made a sample portfolio, but I feel stuck at the “now what” stage. Do you just DM people? Apply on Fiverr? I’m kinda nervous to pitch tbh.
