Your fave games for atmosphere?
There are some games I love mainly because of how atmospheric they are, one of which is the incredible The Eidolon. What games did you like for the same reason?

I think Mindfighter did a good job of creating a real atmosphere. The game was set in a post nuclear war, it was an adventure game, but it had a very descriptive way of setting each scene you visited - much more than the standard adventure game stuff. Really set the atmosphere!
Modern Gaming
Question for you all... Are you all modern gamers as well? And what consoles do you play...XBox / PS / PC or are you purely retro gamers? I have PS5 and my PC runs my Flight Sim set-up, but definitely love going back to old games. Apologies if this slightly off topic, not looking to spark discussions on modern games, just curious if you all purely like the retro scene or play the modern consoles as well.

@Gabor Harsfalvi yes....i actually have that as well... but to be honest I've never really taken to it. I should really give it another go

@Gabor Harsfalvi I agree... Logitech peripherals generally are good, I did have the Saitek yoke for flying the small planes but switched to the Airbus sidestick for a more authentic experience.
Favourite Game Music
What's everyone's favourite game music from the amazing SID chip? It's hard to narrow down for me. I love Nemesis the Warlock, Hawkeye, Cybernoid 2, the Last Ninja series, Spellbound, Warhawk and pretty much all version of the Ocean Loader. Parallax is a great, trippy tune too. That SID chip had a major influence on my musical tastes growing up. I'm a fan of Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Vangellis, Kraftwerk and later Kebu and Madis. Electronic music just speaks to me in ways nothing else does, all thanks to SID. Over to you...

Does anyone remember the programme..."The Music System" it was a programme where you could compose music or you could actually input sheet music. I remember spending ages taking some sheet music for songs and entering it in... actually sounded pretty good. It was a pretty comprehensive programme giving you access to the SID chip and in right hands I'm sure it could be put to good use!

Do you have a fond memory or story around a C64 game?
I would love to hear any stories or fond memories or a particular game. I remember going on a family trip to Torquay (UK), and on one of the days my Dad took me to John Menzies (large newsagent / stationery shop) and they had a GREAT computer game section. I loved Way of the Exploding Fist and at this stage, didn't even realise there was a sequel. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw the cover of Fist 2, and read the description on the back over and over again, which didn't go unnoticed by my Dad. Eventually he said "ok, put it back, we need to go soon, have a quick look around the store and then we'll go". Later, when we were back at the hotel, my Dad handed me a bag, I opened it and Fist 2 was inside!!!! The only problem was now I had to wait until the end of the holiday to play it 😂. I know it got a luke warm review in some mags but I LOVED it!! The photo is of my original which I will always treasure.

Funny Story (well - wasn't at the time :) ) about the game Pirates! My mate and i - think we were about 14 ot 15 at the time maybe... we decided that since his mum and dad were away for a few days we were going to have a Mega session of Pirates! Now we had the tape version, which did have a bug in it where it would sometime crash when you got a promotion from the governor, but made it a little more tedious as involved a re-load, but we were doing well and we were hours in at this point we had amassed over 600,000 gold pieces! so we kept going and got to over 650,000 gold pieces as we were selling. Now as we sold more and more the total suddenly went to ZERO...! I if you'd seen the look on our faces.... what just happened??? So i figured it out some time later , but the gold is stored in memory, so 8-bit machine - max you can store is 255, or if you put 2 lots of 8 bit numbers together you can get 65535... penny dropping yet ?? yep as we went past the 65535(0) gold pieces it just went back to zero... obviously the programmer never thought anyone would ever get to that number - but didn't factor in 2 avid teenage Pirates! fans ready for an all night session..🤣🤣🤣🤣. we actually continued most of the night to earn our gold back !
Who is into the C64 Demo Scene?
One of the things that still blows me away is the C64 Demo Scene. I remember several years ago watching Edge of Disgrace by Booze Dedign and my jaw hit the desk! I've always associated the demo scene with the Amiga, it's the first place I saw any. Jesus on Es is still a favourite of mine. I've just watched one on YouTube, Parallax Tribute 100% by Bonzai. Once again, jaw on desk. Downloaded from csdb to watch on real hardware later. Amazing. https://youtu.be/3GM3GkBp5mk?si=5Rb6HYXjtPDJ72fe

Some of the demos out there that I've seen just blow me away!! It should not even be possible to do this with C64. I am completely in awe of the guys out there that put this stuff together....
