Question for the Coders
As I mentioned in a previous post, I want to have a proper stab at programming when my C64U lands. Ideally I'd like to try my hand at assembly but I realise I should start with the BASICs (see what I did there? 😁) I have the C64 User's Guide and the Programmers Reference Guide along with the complete set of INPUT magazines. What other books or resources would you recommend? I'd like to do it old school on the actual system where possible. I know there's cross development. Is there something like the C64 PRG Studio available for Linux?

I am doing some coding and learning on all computers at the moment ei:- C64, BBC b and Speccy 48.
Modem on a C64
Does anybody on this site use a modem connected to their beloved C64. I used on for a little while but there wasn't too much interesting on the BBS systems, plus the connection was a bit shaky. Do you think the C64 should work stand-alone or have internet connection.

I will keep my C64 away from the internet. That is what I have a PC for.
Start Here! - Introduce yourself: Where you're based / Fave 64 Games / Work etc
Hi Guys I thought it would be cool to introduce ourselves and find out a bit about each other. I'll go first I guess :-) I'm based just south of London, UK and I'm an IT Trainer (26 odd years now). Been into Commodre ever since my Dad bought a Vic 30 around 83. Some of my fave 64 games include Gunship, Elite, Uridium, The Mars Saga, Nodes of Yesod, Ghost n Goblins, Forbidden Forest, Blue Max...oh man I could go on forever! lol Looking forward to meeting you guys here!

@Mayhem Chaosinsky Nice pictures, great that you have collected C64 stuff.
Business with the C64
Did anybody on this site ever use a C64 to actually earn money? I did in the 80's at school. I used to type a program (mostly a BBC program, schools had them), then converted the program to work on the C64. Sold a few print outs or received C64 items in return. Copied (sorry, backed up) programs for others and got a donation for them (can't use the word sell). Paid 35 quid for the Action Reply cart 6 and it earnt it self money.

Do you have a fond memory or story around a C64 game?
I would love to hear any stories or fond memories or a particular game. I remember going on a family trip to Torquay (UK), and on one of the days my Dad took me to John Menzies (large newsagent / stationery shop) and they had a GREAT computer game section. I loved Way of the Exploding Fist and at this stage, didn't even realise there was a sequel. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw the cover of Fist 2, and read the description on the back over and over again, which didn't go unnoticed by my Dad. Eventually he said "ok, put it back, we need to go soon, have a quick look around the store and then we'll go". Later, when we were back at the hotel, my Dad handed me a bag, I opened it and Fist 2 was inside!!!! The only problem was now I had to wait until the end of the holiday to play it 😂. I know it got a luke warm review in some mags but I LOVED it!! The photo is of my original which I will always treasure.

Love playing Pipemania, Pacman, Commando (with the cheats installed, finished the game), Tetris, Scramble and Defender. Used to play International Football on cart, stayed up all night years ago, playing tournaments.
