What is your process to manage bid requirements?
I think one of the hardest problems with tendering big projects is the amount of documentation clients provided. Big scopes of work, lots of specifications, drawings etc. Each of these documents has pricing information. ETc What are peopel's processes for managing bid requirements? The core feature I am trying to build Operum around is that in the bid documents, every requirement that impacts cost needs to fit in one of these four buckets: 1. Included in your direct costs (labour plant and materials) 2. Included in a subcontract scope of works 3. Included in your prelims/risk 4. Or explicitly excluded in your letter of offer Bsaically, you take the tender documents and transform it into a big checklist Keen to hear how others do it

To be honest, in practice most contractors don’t price tenders from scratch tendering is highly contextual and rate-driven. Most contractors already have a mature rate library and standard rate analyses covering roughly 60–70% of items, with established decisions on what is self-performed versus subcontracted. When a new tender arrives, the exercise is largely about mapping the scope to these existing rates, updating them with current procurement data, and aligning subcontract scopes, while the real effort goes into adjusting prelims, overheads, risk, and contingency based on project-specific factors. The biggest cost impact usually comes not from re-measuring everything, but from how requirements are allocated whether they sit within direct costs, are passed to subcontractors, absorbed into prelims or risk, or deliberately excluded making the tender process more about validating assumptions and managing risk than building prices from zero.
