On Today's Coffee Chat
Today we talked about some common cravings in pregnancy & what that tells you about vitamins/minerals your body needs & how to make some healthy swaps... craving salty chips? your body needs chloride-> swap out for kale chips. Check out the chart below. We also talked about the importance of iron both in pregnancy and post partum. So I wanted to share a couple of fun, iron-rich recipes with you! (see attachments)

This is interesting, thanks for posting it here since I didn't get a great look earlier! I liked salty stuff and fresh fruit with both my pregnancies. Both times I could hardly eat sweets though - gross! Even chocolate, which I normally love, I could not stand while pregnant! After my first baby was born, my husband gave me a chocolate bar. Yummmm! 😋This pregnancy I've been able to eat more sweets/chocolate (if that's even a good thing! ☺️) but it still really doesn't appeal to me. The other thing I don't like at all while pregnant is bread (but pasta, yes - bring on that mac n cheese!). I just find it interesting how a little person growing inside of me can change me SO much. Not just in what food appeals to me, but in so many ways beyond that... it's fascinating! Also, thanks for the iron-rich snack recipes! I'll have to let you know how I like them if I try them out!
Pregnancy Cravings!
Do/did you have them? And any food aversions? When I was pregnant with my son, I didn’t really have any food aversions- everything just tasted bland! Except Mac & cheese! It was my staple comfort food especially in the first trimester when nothing else tasted good or sat right in my stomach. This week on the coffee chat I would love to get to know more about your nutritional habits during pregnancy and offer some guidance to any questions you may have on this topic.

First pregnancy: aversions, aversions, aversions. Nothing looked good. I got my first craving in the 8th month, radishes. It promptly went away though. I was sick the whole nine months. Our kitchen is right across from our bedroom and my husband learned to shut the bedroom door before cooking and be careful what he cooked - then had to unlearn that 2 days after I gave birth! Second pregnancy: still aversions, thankfully not as bad though. And still no cravings, I don't know what the hype is with cravings! I've learned what goes down and also that eating around the clock (even when you can't think of anything to eat) is the surest way to prevent morning sickness. Interesting, mac n cheese is a staple of mine this pregnancy too! Also ice cream... I know it's not super healthy but at least my midwife says since it melts in your stomach it counts as hydration. 🤣 Nutrition chat sounds super interesting!
