DP NEEDED Los Angeles
DP NEEDED: Hello One Grand Community I am in search for a DP with their own equipment (ideally 2 cameras), for a One Grand Film production. Shooting in Van Nuys, CA. It's a 2 camera Comedy. I have camera B operator covered for 3 of the weekends, if you have a camera B cohort who can cover the last 2 weekends, even better. DP would need to be available for all shoot dates, for continuity, you understand. Here are the shoot dates: Sept 20-21 (camera B operator covered) Sept 27-28 (camera B operator covered) Oct 4-5 (camera B operator covered) Oct 11-12 (still need camera B operator) Oct 18-19 (still need camera B operator) 10 days of shooting. All one location, in Van Nuys. Should be fun! Let's go!!! 😃 [email protected]

DP Has Questions
@Aj Rome Hi! The next paragraph is a copy/paste from my DP: "My questions are more for the editor in regards to how they will be handling the color management and the size of the files." Do you have answers for this, or is it up to each editor as to how this is handled? #1-I still need an editor. #2-Do I also need a separate colorist? Thank you!

@Aj Rome Hi! This just in from my DP. Reminder to ask about more details regarding the 2.39 (I think he said 2.35) aspect ratio. Please explain to him that in our situation we are not shooting anamorphic and so we would be creating a “fake” version by adding letterbox or black bars - for viewing in on set and in post. For the record the camera would still be recording 1:1.78 but we would be framing for 1:2.39 and adding the black bars.

@Aj Rome thank you!
Q&A Tactical Recap from Friday 9-5-25
This week’s call covered everything from $10M raises to TikTok skits. Here are the highlights 👇 ✅ Starting as a New Filmmaker If you’re brand new, don’t overthink it. Start with the Lead Domino Film Accelerator in the classroom tab. It walks you step-by-step so you don’t get overwhelmed. Emily followed this exact process and is already submitting her feature to festivals. ✅ Raising Big Budgets ($10M Example) To make a $10M film real, you need: - A-list cast with LOIs (via casting directors) - A director and producer with a track record in that budget range ✅ Closing Funding Gaps (WeFunder & LinkedIn) WeFunder lets investors buy equity. Every successful campaign lists its investors publicly. You can reverse-search those names on LinkedIn and reach out directly. Personalize your pitch with proof (cast, distribution, crew)—not empty promises. ✅ Commercial Work & Client Videos Don’t just deliver pretty videos—learn funnels. Businesses need ads, landing pages, and strategy, not just content. This is how you go from “videographer” to “indispensable partner.” ✅ Shorts vs. Features Shorts rarely pay off. Features—even tiny ones—prove you can finish. My $1K feature led to three greenlit films and a seat in the Television Academy. Emily’s improvised feature gave her confidence and a project now moving through post. Shorts won’t build a career. Features will. ✅ Building an Audience with Skits Want to make comedy skits? Post them on TikTok first. The algorithm actually gives new accounts a chance, and once you’ve got traction, funnel that audience into bigger projects. ✅ Monetizing Your Film A few ways we broke down: - Aggregators (Quiver): Get your film on Apple TV, etc. - Self-distribution: Mark Toia turned $25K in Facebook ads into $1M in sales. - Distributors: They’ll split profits, but you lose control. - Four-walling & Merch: Rent theaters or sell clever add-ons (I sold Popsockets for End Trip at a 90% profit margin).

@Emily Slaughter Carver funny!
3. The TRUTH Assignment
My biggest takeaway is: I want to prove that I can make a movie from start to finish. Even if the movie isn’t good just make another one and learn from the previous one. Also don’t try to be another director, be Donyale West the Writer/Director My biggest concern/challenge is: I have imposter syndrome big time and afraid to succeed more than failing. I’m 44 and haven’t succeeded at much, probably because of that. I’m dedicating myself to not being afraid to finish succeed and do it again.

I can soooo relate to this! I really want to make a film, so I figure if I show up and just check all the boxes Aj has set up for us, I can win! I don't have to know as much as I would without Aj. That's usually where I get stuck, trying to figure out some random thing that sucks the life out of me, and kills my momentum and then I lose motivation. I feel like this is my best chance to change my ride and actually do this. PLUS, when I finish this one film, I have a huge success to lean on and it will affect every area of my life, because "I" will be different. So, @Donyale West why not go for it? What if you actually do it?
