Become A Liptrill Master
Lip trills look simple. But doing them really well is not. The quality matters. If your lip trill is unstable, pressed or collapsing, you are training the wrong coordination. A good liptrill needs steady airflow, relaxed lips, and no unnecessary tension in jaw, neck or tongue. This is exactly why I make ALL my students do them. Beginners, semi-professionals and professionals. Yes, I "torture" everyone with it because you can train and prepare so many essential things with this one exercise. If you do it correctly, it becomes one of the most powerful tools you have. You can also take another look at Chapter 3 in my ONLINE MASTERCLASS where I show you exactly how to work with it in details.

@Kristina Hlebec in the Masterclass,1st Year, you find the INTRODUCTION, then as first chapter THE SINGER'S BODY, as second chapter BREATH MANAGEMENT and as third chapter THE LIPTRILL.

Great! Once Posture and Breathmanagement work well, the LIPTRILL shouldn't be a problem. The most important thing is to keep posture, open ribs, open throat, breath suppprt perfect as you learned it in chapter 1 and 2 of the MASTERCLASS. Sometimes singers forget about those basics when they start to work with the voice ( and then wonder why it's not functioning)....;) Keep us updated how the liptrill works. :) Eva
Breathing exercise 1
In these two videos I’m trying to reconstruct the first breathing exercise — both the first and second phases. I’m not sure whether I’m doing it correctly or if I’m taking too large an inhale. I still don’t have a sense of relaxation during the inhale; it feels like my breath isn’t low enough to feel an air cushion — it feels too high, lifting my sternum and creating pressure on the glottis. Also, I’m not sure where I should feel the air leaving on the exhale, i.e., where the body should squish

And here comes my comment to your second video: you're doing the ss too strong for 30 seconds ;) Think about "inhalare" when you do it. And, don't be frustrated when it doesn't work that long immediately. The most important thing is to keep the ribs open and to feel that the larynx automatically goes into a good low position for singing when you inhale through one nostril, widening the ribs at the same time. Try to succeed to keep the ss ( inhaling feeling) 10 to 15 seconds, but make sure that the ribcage stays open. You can also start with breathing exercise 2 ( the one that trains the diaphragm). You're doing great! Eva

And....the body should ALWAYS stay open, never squeeze anything:)
Breathing exercises 1. from the GP Masterclass
I still have some uncertainties about the first breathing exercise. So the exercise is done on the sound "ssss" by holding it as long as I finish a phrase of an aria/song/Lied I chose? And I repeat that for every phrase until the end of the aria? And between those, is there the reflexive inhalation? Or?

Yes, dear Kristina:) Make sure that the ribs stay expanded until the very end of the phrase. Please start with step 1 do all the steps until the end one after one. Step 1: inhale through one nostril exactly as we show it in Chapter 2 of the Masterclass. As a first step just hold the breath. Stay open on your ribcage and involve your lower abdominal muscles. Try to move your head to all three directions as we show it in chapture 1( posture) Once that works WITHOUT your ribs collapsing, go to Step 2: same procedure, exhale on ssssss. Keep the jaw muscles soft, the neck open, the ribs expanded and the abdominals engaged. Once you can do that for at least 30 seconds without collapsing ribs and WITH those three movements of the head, go to the second breathing exercise. 2nd breathing exercise: Do it exactly as we show it in the second part of chapter 2 of the Masterclass. Make sure that you just work on the diaphragm without collapsing ribcage! Practice that until you can do it al least 20 times in a row without collapsing ribcage. ONLY THEN try to combine those 2 ways of inhaling for singing using an aria on sssssss. If you like, send me one short example for each of the two basic breathing exercises. BTW, practice them daily before you start to work on your voice. :) Eva

@Kristina Hlebec it will work faster than you think when you practice it daily:) And it will give you a strong base for your singing voice. Tell me when the two breathing exercises start to work!
Posture & Breath: Real Questions, Real Answers (Part 2)
For everyone already working with my Masterclass "The Golden Path into Opera Singing": Kristina asked a really good question about Chapter 2 (Breath Management), and I´d like to expand on this a bit for you. Even if I already answered her in the comments, this is something many singers struggle with. Go back and watch carefully how Anatol and I demonstrate the two basic breathing exercises. Don´t just look what we do. Pay attention to how it feels in the body. The chapter is only about 8 minutes long, but already contains all the essential basics and very clear demonstrations. Take your time with it. It can also help a lot if you film yourself while doing the exercises and compare it to the video. What you FEEL and what you actually DO are often not the same. What really matters is not taking more air, bur how you release and manage while singing. The stability comes from coordination, not force. When you practice, focus on keeping the expansion of your ribs, avoiding unnecessary tension in the neck and shoulders, and allowing the breath to flow instead of pushing it. Also take your time with both chapters Posture and Breath Management. This is the foundation of everything. I always compare it to opening the lid of a piano before playing. Without that, nothing really works. What do YOU notice when you work through Chapter 2? Let me know below :)

Posture & Breath: Real Questions, Real Answers (Part 2)
Technique
Hello, I’m excited to be here. Last May I hired a voice coach. I’ve been singing my whole life but realized I had been straining and my voice getting tired. I knew I wasn’t breathing properly or sighing properly. My voice coach is professional, talented & patient. Watches how I do the things… I cant do weekly lessons so I do monthly. I get a recap of the lesson with homework. I know myself and know I get busy with work and life, I don’t practice enough. I’ve been working on breathing techniques and hitting my highest note- I think it’s a C#5. I’m somewhere between a tenor and contralto. Working on Singing AH - 5 Tone scale, droopy, MUH 135 Dopey-placement is an area I’ve been really working hard on. Any tricks or tips is much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear Kyanna! Great, that you decided to work on your voice in a serious way:) I´m sure that you´ll find lots of good tips and tricks in the community section as well as in the classroom section. Take your time to look around and find out what is helpful for you. Warm regards, Eva
