There is a bit of an overlap here with mind, spirit and nature skills. A sit spot comes from coyote mentoring and teaching people how to be in nature, to observe, to listen and to see what else arises. It is a bit like meditation, and can be much deeper, depending on how long you can do it for. For example a vision quest is doing this for days with no food and just water. This is a massive rite of passage and intense experience. A sit spot can be as little as 15 minutes to more than an hour (if you have time). It is also commonly in the same area as you can observe how your nature spot changes with the seasons. What birds do you notice? What trees do you notice? How can still can you be in nature? Even as that bug crawls up your arm or your back starts to ache? What wildlife is approaching near you in your stillness and silence? How does the sun and clouds look right now? What can you smell in the air? Use all of your senses, sight, smell, touch, hearing....how far can you hear? What are the distance noises you can pick out? Or the tiny ones right next to you? Do that with sight and smell as well. These are all of the beautiful things to appreciate and enjoy! Now, what about the next ones: What thoughts are piercing your mind? What fears or anxieties are stinging your mind like a mosquito? Listen to those whispers before they become screams. Pay attention to what your bod, heart and mind is telling you!
