This video covers three ways to handle a seller who is not establishing his/her sale price. Use the "Ballpark" technique first!! You may save yourself an hour behind the wheel of a car if the seller is not in your ballpark. Use it early in the conversation if you can, before you even see the entire collection. Try to have some sense of baseline expectation from the seller before sinking anymore mental energy or time into the equation. You don't want to lose an hour of your workday to learn there is no way you will reach a deal. I know we have talked about the 'offer in the pocket' game before, but it's so awesome and worth bringing up every so often. Go get some kickass deals and don't forget, it is a BUYER'S MARKET right now. Even with the holidays bearing down on us. Prices are soft and people are liquidating collections. I wanted to share this with you all. I found this little brooch at an antique mall and paid $7 for it. I thought he would bring a little bit because of being a mushroom. When I went to sell him for a starting bid of $1, I turned him over to look for a makers mark and seen 14 K. I thought surely not but I was like let me test him and bring him back next show. I took him to the jeweler. He told me it was solid gold, coral ball, and emerald eyes. His comps were pretty high, some as high as $1500. I sold him for $750!! He was only about two inches long!!
