VBS Check out
I made a couple comments during the zoom but thought I should mention one more thing that might be helpful. Have one door in and designate one as the exit door. Another way to help ensure that everyone exits out one door.. have tables that lead to your exit with all the kids' crafts and take-home items. We have volunteers that are craft runners that bring the crafts to these tables once the crew has completed that rotation. Before dismissal I will print a daily update, page and place it with each kid's craft. At dismissal direct them to the tables (each crew has a spot) to grab their kid's items. We use the path divider things (like you would see at an airport) to create the path out that leads right to the door.
VBS Volunteer Handbook example
Here is last year's volunteer handbook. I am still working on this years. ALL Volunteers receive this at training, and we pretty much go through page by page. For crew leaders we do add a roster page on the back cover for them to keep track of who is there each day.
Bathroom Policy- Specific to Kids Events, Not Sunday Mornings
The bathrooms are a shared space for kids and adults. Our Sunday morning policy is that no volunteer is to be in the bathroom alone with a child. If a child needs assistance, then 2 adults are to be present. During Kids Events, like Kids Camp, how do you manage bathrooms? Do you have a bathroom monitor? I'm at a lose for practical ways to work through this!

If possible you could have kids only bathroom and volunteer only bathrooms
Next Step?
We had a great conversation on our Zoom call this afternoon! Thanks to everyone who joined us! Share below: What's one next step you're taking to move forward with your VBS planning after our call today? Could be something specific we talked about or something more general. Let's cheer each other on!

I will be finalizing key leader positions and continue to update documents and spreadsheets to this year's information. Also work on Easter VBS Promos.
Volunteer Training
Thanks for a great Zoom call today! I want to start the discussion on Volunteer Training. How do you typically facilitate it? We have over 100 volunteers so trying to get them all together seems challenging! In the past it's been a luncheon and slideshow but I want to make it more engaging! Maybe livestream it? An evening instead of a Sunday afternoon? Childcare? Alllll the thoughts! Thanks for sharing!

We offer 2 volunteer trainings the week before our VBS starts. One on a Sunday after Church with lunch served. This is usually the best attended one. And the other on Wednesday night with a meal served. I provide childcare if needed. Everyone gets the same Volunteer handbook. With all the info, rotations, crafts, snacks, daily themes, & emergency procedures. I typically just go right through the handbook page by page. At the end of the training, we will break up into groups. Craft volunteers will get to look a the crafts. I will actually walk our crew leaders through the rotation, so they know exactly where they are going and point out where the bathrooms, security, first aid and things like that are). Our meal team will meet with final details. and so on. This year I am considering having a training separate for our youth volunteers. So that we can better speak to them about what they will be doing and expectations.
