🐾 Training Fun with Sandy! - Foundational Basics Game
šŸ”ŠVolume down until 2:36! FYI The voiceover part at the beginning of the video is a bit louder than the rest - and that ends at 2:36 šŸ™‰ No matter what — whether you’re starting with an 8-week-old puppy or an older dog — this is always the very first place I begin when it comes to training. This exercise (shown in the video) focuses on the primary commands: stand, sit, and down. It’s the first step to get you comfortable with using a marker word or clicker and it sets the foundation for everything else. Not only is this a fun game, but it also: āœ… Builds strong foundational skills āœ… Helps your dog learn through offering behaviors āœ… Creates a positive training habit for both you and your dog What we’re looking for: - Mark and reward when your dog offers sit, down, or stand - Mark and reward for leaving it - In this video, we also introduced an ā€œupā€ onto the KLIMB for extra fun and confidence building šŸ‘‰ Be conscious of your hand positions as you train: - Sit → hover your fist above your dog’s head - Down → point directly toward the ground - Stand → hold your thumb at their nose, then pull your hand slightly back toward you Whether you’ve been training for years or are just starting out, this is a fantastic way to begin. And most importantly — your dog will have fun doing it with you! šŸŽ„ Here’s a look at Sandy in her very first training session practicing this foundational game.

@Amanda Taulborg I definitely would be up for a move if I could get my hubby & daughter on board. You’ll have to DM me and let me know where your company is located and what great affordable places I should look into.

@Amanda Taulborg thanks, I was wondering if I should have removed the items in the bag, since it was on the steps and much different then doing the task on a flat surface. 😬 When she successfully brings the bag without dropping it — is that when I add more items?
Mission 3 Day 9 Teaching A New Skill.
First Step: I taught Amica to grab hold of the Handle and Bring It To Me. Next Step: I clipped the Handle to my Essentials Travel Bag, so that she can grab the Handle and bring the Essentials Travel Bag to me. By having her grab the Handle I don’t have to worry about her damaging any of the items inside the bag.

šŸ˜Ž Joy Rocking Her Rex Specs
Joy is looking pretty COOOL — becoming desensitized to wearing her new pink Rex Specs! 🐾 When introducing something new like this, it’s all about small steps and positive associations: 1. First, let your dog sniff the gear to get familiar with it. 2. Then, place it briefly on their face. 3. Finally, clip it on their head for a short moment. For now, we’re only working with the frames (no lenses) so Joy can get used to the feeling without too much change at once. Every step is paired with verbal praise, treats, and lots of positive reinforcement. 🐶 Training Takeaway You might notice your dog looking a little uncomfortable or unsure with new gear at first. That’s totally normal! What matters most is what they remember about the experience. At the end of this video, you can see how excited Joy was — and that’s intentional. The "after-training" experience is just as important as the training itself. When you wrap up with 2–5 minutes of fun, play, and ā€œyou’re the coolest dog everā€ energy, your dog walks away remembering: ✨ ā€œTraining with my person is FUN!ā€ ✨ That memory makes them more eager and excited to try again next time. It also helps them shake off any hesitation, bond closer with you, and look forward to learning. Key tip: Always finish on a positive note. Even if the session is calm or a little challenging, end with fun so your dog leaves happy, confident, and ready for the next round!!

@Amanda Taulborg lol that’s how I imagine Riley looking
Scooter
So here she is sitting on one of those automatic scooters at the grocery store. This is pretty much how she sits on my scooter my personal scooter so my challenge is how can I get her to alert from this position or get her to sit up from this position I haven’t started working with her yet because I’ve been maybe probably overthinking it but this is how she is usually so if I can get her to alert And how can I teach her how to do that from this position that we’re in?

I don’t think you’re overthinking this at all. I definitely want to train Amica & Riley to do this too on days when the pain is too much for me (like today) and I don’t have much mobility. I’m looking forward to seeing what @Amanda Taulborg says to do. There’s not much room for Harley to move around on the scooter. I would have you position her between your legs like you are in these pics at home and have her work on the scent cans and alerting your right leg. Before you have her totally facing away from you have her between your legs facing your right leg doing the scent cans and alerting you on the right leg. Once she has mastered that in different rooms of the house do it in the backyard, front yard, at a local park, then at a pet friendly place where you can sit on a chair and have her facing your right leg and alerting. Master this right facing position first for awhile, then start the process all over again at home with Harley facing forward with her back to you (like she’s on the scooter with you) and train with the scent cans with alerting on your right leg.
