Patrick's thought of the day.
So, I was thinking about the story of Adam & Eve (shocking I know.) One branch of the story discusses Original Sin, which was committed by Eve eating the forbidden fruit. What's not equally discussed is Adamโs sin which is Failing to take responsibility for his actions (perhaps the first original sin of the Male). Why? Adam says in the story, "The woman whom you gave to me, she gave me the fruit of the tree, and I ate." Obviously, Adam is speaking with God at this point. The way I see it, first, Adam blames God. "The woman whom you gave to me". Adam is blaming God, perhaps stating God gave Adam a flawed wife. Perhaps if God constructed Eve better, she could have made the decision to refuse the fruit so Adam would have not been so tempted to eat the fruit. Second, Adam states that "she gave me the fruit of the tree". Adams then blames Eve for giving him the fruit, as if he has no ability to think for himself and refuse the fruit. Lastly, Adam finally admits that after the 2 reasons initially provided, he could logically make sense of why he ate the fruit. I truly believe this is why God cursed Adam. If you go on to read this story, you can see the God is not happy with Adam stating "because you listened to your wife and ate the fruit" I will be kicking you out of the Garden of Eden, to suffer for the rest of your days. I dont actually believe Adam will suffer for the rest of his days, but it's a lesson. The bible is a book filled with stories about flawed humans who learn their lesson through trial and error. Learning from their mistakes. Adam paid the price for his mistake. The way to repent for that mistake, would be the next time presented with the opportunity, take full accountability for everything that occurs to you. If not, who is responsible? Perhaps this is the reason that Males must go out into the world to learn their truth. Men often find meaning when they leave their home, go out into the world, and find their place in it. But in order to live in a state of "heaven", man must be accountable for his own actions. Perhaps this is one of many ways to re-enter the Garden of Eden, or perhaps create your own for your future family. If not, you will be cursed for your coming days. Proof of this could be that Adam's first born son murdered his second born son.
