Post Your Breath Hold (Week 24: June 8th - June 15th 2026)
Do you know what it is? … … If you guessed breath holding, you got it right! Breath holding (intermittent hypoxia training) holds tremendous benefits! Science is slowly catching up to the untapped potential of breath holding. Freedivers, like Stig, have been invaluable guinea pigs in demonstrating that the human body is far more capable than imagined, and the results of longer & long term holds. This opened the doorway to interest in studying the benefits of hypoxia & hypercapnia tolerance (resistance to low oxygen and high carbon dioxide levels). The first results have been promising, with studies in mice showing a protective potential in old age, one of the key indicators of a long and healthy life (see first comment for link to study). So… The question is… How long can you hold your breath?

Been doing breathholding inconsistently due to very inconsistent schedules as a trainer. For me right now the most important is to have a somewhat regular practice, regardless of if I manage to do the challenge each week, and even if one day i can only get one round of BH I take it as a small win. But one thing I've noticed is how dependant on my stress level and psychological state my BH times are. Last week I managed to do 4 days in a row of consistent 3-4 rounds of BH each session. The first three days I saw a linear increase in BH across rounds and from day to day (usually something like 2:00 > 2:20 > 2:40). Was really able to relax into the contractions, let them happen and keep going. But on the 4th day, woke up after a bad night of sleep due to work related stress. Couldn´t manage to pass 1:30. The contractions felt really stiff and strong, couldn´t relax into them at all. And I noticed this pattern many times. Next week I have holidays, gonna try to reach my 3:30 PR on the beach :)
Post Your Breath Hold (Week 4: Jan 19th - Jan 25th)
Can you name the most important aspect of breath holding? Give yourself a second. Is it controlling the mind? Being in great shape? A strong, flexible diaphragm? The biggest breath hold wins start with relaxation, and the key to relaxation is in the exhalation. Follow along, and experience how you regain calm & focus in a single session: Step-by-step: 1. Sit or lie down in a comfortable position (preferably lying down) 2. Do 10 prep breaths - Inhale through your nose, exhale slowly through your mouth with slight resistance (like a hissing sound), focusing on letting go of tension in your mind and muscles 3. The breathing relaxes you - The controlled exhale increases oxygen in your blood and triggers the vagus nerve, lowering your metabolism 4. Then hold - After the 10th exhale, take a final breath in and begin your breath hold How did you do? Post your time & get feedback & points. Then head on over to the Classroom & follow the instructions for the next day

Rejoining after a veeeery long time away. Can´t promise that I will comit, but at least want to try one week. Been doing a few unstructured, irregular holds now and then the past weeks after a long time without. Never checked the time, but just how I feel. During the dives, getting very uncomfortable, not so much the diaphragm reflex, but some pressure in the neck, nose and face. Even trying to relax never helped. Today I just did the first video, so zero dive, no expectations, no preparation, just breath in, relax and see what happens. Whole day fasting, after a long trip and work stress. D1: 1:47. Not so bad as I expected, plus, I felt relatively well compared to my previous attempts in the past few weeks.

Breath Hold Times (August 31st to September 7th)
Post all your Breath Hold Times here Let's go & double your breath hold! 🧑‍🏫 Step 1: Take an inhale, start your stopwatch & hold your breath. Step 2: Post your time here so you can get feedback and points Step 3: Head on over to the Classroom & follow the instructions Already participated last week, or last month? No worries, you can post and do it as much as you want (as a matter of fact, we'd only encourage it 😎) And if you done the challenge once (or twice), feel free to shake it up a little bit. Do exhale breath holds only for a week, or take it easy and do 1-2 breath holds a day without going for a max. Variety is the spice of life. Get to level 4 in the Leaderboards, and you unlock the Superhuman Lungs training protocol (who doesn't want to have lungs like the Human Dolphin?) Post all seven days, and you may be the lucky winner of the Breath Hold Mastery course 😎 And last (but not least) a little shout out to last weeks top 10 leaderboard: @Curro Cachinero @Denis Blanchard @Mir Jam @Edward Brittain @Kristopher Pensenti @Tina Mosner @Deleted @Francois Godineau @Natalia Gijsbers @Mary Shorten

Day 2, following normal instructions from.the challenge (10 resistance breaths + 3 warm up). Did 4 rounds, the first one was very disappointing like it's been for the past week. From.2nd to 4th i felt way better and relaxed and noted that on my times. R1 1:26 R2 2:14 R3 2:19 R4 2:41 Still short of my goal of 3+, but I'm going slowly this week, getting used back to the sensations, no pushing to much, relearning to accept, tolerate and relax.

@Javier Quappe sound great Javier, like i the gym, not gonna get a max everyday, but it's still very close. Keep it up. Doing it in a pool in summer with a nice water temperature is definitely a great experience. Enjoy it

Day 3, last day in Mexico. Still couldn't find my flow with breathholds here. The warm up breathing felt very relaxed, i even was meditating for 15 minutes before. Started the firrst round holding, felt Ok, but suddenly the diaphragm reflexes kicked ik very strongly and couldn't continue. As this was the case each first reoind this week, it didnt concern me much, surely next rounds would be better. 2nd round also started feeling ok, but tye contractions happened even more abruptly this time. That was strange. 3rd round was ok but still well below my normal. 1st - 0:57 2nd - 0:45 3rd - 1:17 A nice kick of humbleness to my ego of thinkig i had breathholding kind of controlled. Oa try to stay more consistent practicing. I'm coming back to sea level tomorrow so i guess it will get easier anyways.

Days 4 and 5, back at sea level. Day 4 did it before going to sleep, just to relax after a very long day and a half. Both rounds where about 1:30, which seems to be my default time for diaphragm contractions. Since i wanted to sleep, decided to stop as soom as i felt the minor discomfort. Day 5 in the morning before breakfast, R1 1:30 - R2 2:00. Felt very relaxed, didn't do great times because i also decided not to push today. Still the when the contractions came i managed to stay calmed and relaxed and hold for bit longer. Could have kept going at it for at least 30 seconds afteri decided to stop, but as i said, didnt ffeel like straining today. The sensation after exhaling and breathing back in was very calmed. Very different sensations to what i felt in Mexico in the height, with shorter times (mostly less than 1miin except Day 2) but mostly a sensation of stress and desperation to breath back in. So I guess the height does really impact.
