What you really get out of holding on…
This might not sound popular… And some might say it’s a little harsh… But the reality is, when you find it hard to let go of something that happened in the past, it’s usually because you’re getting something out of it in the present. This is especially true in relationships. Holding on to a “victim story” can give you attention, compassion, sympathy, even entitlement or self-righteousness. And while those things may feel comforting, they also keep you from the love and joy you really want. The truth is, you can’t step fully into freedom and lasting connection while still clinging to the old story. At some point, you have to decide what matters more… Do you want to keep the comfort of the familiar? Or do you want to open yourself to the happiness waiting on the other side? When you let go, you stop surviving your story and start living your life. So let me ask you, what story might you be ready to release?

@Janet Masingill Love that you can still hear the crackling of the needle on the record. A great tune Janet! Thanks for sharing. My dad also loved jazz and used to be a drummer in a jazz band that travelled all over Europe during World War II, playing for the troops to boost their moral. It took me right back to my childhood when he would play music from that era and I can see him and my stepmom dancing together in our living room to the music. Thanks for the happy memory! 😁 It’s so true, @Ed JC Smith there are times that something from our past holds us trapped until we figure it out and release it. RYD helped me to do that. Thank you for that Ed. 🤗

@Janet Masingill Happy memories from the past help us to put the sad, bad and difficult ones in perspective. Glad it helped you recall the good times, as it did for me. 😁
Introduction
Hi everyone! I am Sarah, I live in Cape Town South Africa. I initially didn't to join the group because i don't want to fix my marriage, I want to end it. I suffered years of emotional abuse and i have decided it is time to go since i realised he will never change. I am busy putting contingencies to exit since we have 3 children together. So I thought the group would just be about romantic relationship which I am not looking for it at all. I finally joined because I thought this platform will help us learn more about any type of relationship? I know that through life coaching and self-reflection and owning my own mistakes, I learned to love myself and heal and i want to pursue that to know more about myself, have deeper and meaningful relationship with my children and create new connections and to learn to foster it. I have started my coaching business and I would like to have more connections, make friends all over the world and live life fully by helping others and not being restrained anymore by people's expectations. I am really enjoying the me that I am to finally go for what I want. I am not fully there yet, but I will definitely be one day! So I am glad to have joined this platform!

Hello all, Firstly, Thank you Ed, for the invitation. My name is Dianne and I am happy to be here. I am a 73 yr old mom of 5 adult children and 6 grandchildren. Being a semi-retired Interior Design Consultant while living in Portugal during the Pandemic, I decided to take advantage of the confinement and complete my Bachelor’s in the Principles & Methods of Teaching English and School Counselling. After which I began teaching on line. Looking for a way to deepen my understanding and skills around counselling and coaching is what lead me to the Expert Coach , the ECA, and was then privileged to really deepen my understanding of relationships (and myself) tutored by EdJC Smith in The RYD course. So much appreciation to Ed, for the value, understanding, the tools and insights. I am looking forward to exchanging thoughts and learning much in this community, working toward qualifying as a certified coach.

@Michael Hubisz thank you
hello
my name is Stacey i have been married for 25 years and we started to have problems around 5 years ago. i realize i have fed the relationship in a submissive pattern, always submitting to whatever everyone else wanted and never considering (or having them consider) what i wanted. now that im perimenopausal and my boys are old enough to take care of themselves (mostly), im stepping into my own identity again (doing things i love) and it is causing some friction. previously, i had been filling my life with courses and achievements to feel seen heard and « successful », so that is why i came into this community. also, i am a certified expert coach with Ed, but just havent stepped fully into the coaching role with life happening as such.

Welcome @Stacey P you’re in a great place to start the next stage of building and bettering your relationship
Why am I here?
I’m here to learn more coping, realizations, communication, and empathy that will help enrich my coaching, for keeping Stroke and TBI families communicating, understanding, and helping each other remain what each needs to keep relationships together and strong. I don’t want others to have to go through what I did, as the misunderstood (he thought of me as broken), and ignored (he refused to help me with my recovery) stroke survivor. YOU ARE NEVER BROKEN, you are just coming from a new perspective.
Why am I here?
