Three Things 4/2 Discipline & Kindness
Hey all! I posted yesterday about being away from home, yet making sure to get my three things in anyway. Sometimes following through on a commitment requires both discipline & kindness. Discipline is, after all, the cornerstone of freedom. If I remain disciplined in my commitment to improve my health, for example, I get to enjoy the freedom of life in a healthy body. Which enables me to do stuff like paddling (see pics!). However/but/and sometimes discipline can seem…I dunno boring or hard or yucky. That’s when I use kindness as my secret weapon. When I speak kindly (but firmly!) to myself I am ALWAYS more motivated to do whatever. I feel more encouraged when I’m kind to myself. I learned the hard way, after decades of speaking to myself harshly, being mean to myself & sometimes downright abusive to me verbally, if it did work, it sucked on some level. No one likes to be called names or spoken to unkindly, yet we often do that to ourselves. But when we speak with kindness & hold ourselves to a higher standard, it becomes easier (not easy, easier!) to accomplish whatever tasks we set for ourselves. So when you read this, maybe take a moment & script some kind words for yourself, words of encouragement & building up, so that when you falter or struggle to do something, and you will sometimes, you have language at the ready to speak to yourself to lift yourself up. My words today: You got this! You are wildly capable! I believe in you 💗! And I believe in YOU, too. Michelle

Managing Anxiety
Do you ever wake up & just feel anxious before you’re even fully awake? Or wake up to a racing heart or thoughts? I’m curious. I went through times in my life where every single morning I woke up like that before I even had any awareness of what I was anxious about! Over time I learned to cultivate habits that supported a calm, peaceful mind. One of those habits that has helped tremendously is not consuming too much news. It’s always a moving target, 🎯 because I don’t want to be completely ignorant to what’s going on in the world 🌎, but I do find there is a threshold of consumption, that if I cross, spirals me into anxiety that can be crippling. How about you? What are some ways you currently manage anxiety & where are some areas you might like help? This is where having community is GOLD. Sometimes others can have ideas, thoughts, & suggestions that we might not have considered. And let’s be real: we ALL have anxiety sometimes!!!

We did discuss, last week, that my goal is to be informed but not overwhelmed. I have been limiting my sources of current events to just a few that I trust. I also try to put time limits on how long I spend reading, watching, or listening to the news. It can be a challenge these days. My walks out in nature are a tremendous help as are meditation, yoga, and just interacting with family and friends or doing something else I enjoy.

Michelle, Sorry to heart about your knee.🙏 Writing poetry sounds great and you can even do that sitting outside by your favorite tree!
Three Things
Good morning (or day, or night, depending on where you are in the world 🌎)! Today I woke up & realized how much stuff I want to do that kind of stays in my head, without making it into the world of form. For example: last weekend I was talking to my cousin, & we were saying how we hadn’t been doing things for our bodies we know we need to. Like for me, specifically, some resistance or weight bearing exercise. I know I need to do it. I know it helps with all kinds of things- bone density, metabolism, how I feel about my arms when I wave-I know all these things and yet I did exactly NOTHING related to resistance training this past week. Why do we do that? Know we need to or “should” do something & then we just flat out don’t do it. It isn’t lack of knowledge, or lack of desire, or even in this case lack of access- I own weights & there’s always 🧘 yoga-but I just…didn’t. Do. It. I know I’m not the only one that knows in my intellect I can “do better” & yet doesn’t. So this morning I decided I’m going to try something for a week or 2 & I’m inviting you to try with me. I’m calling it Three Things. Each day, I’m going to do 3 things that support a better version of me. Three things. And I’m going to write them down - here & in a new Three Things journal I’m creating—and see if there’s momentum. I’m curious about what can change. I already know the results doing nothing gets me. So if you’d like to join me, I invite you to pick your 3 things each day that move you towards a better version of you, & acknowledge those things. Write ✍🏻 them down! Let’s see where this goes! Here’s my list for today: Take a walk Do 3 things for my business (specified tasks in the journal) Eat something healthy aka nourish me. You in??? Let’s go!

Coffee Walk & Talk Sunday
This week for our coffee chat I’m gonna take you guys out on a walk with me! Clinical research shows that movement/exercise boosts feel good chemicals in the brain. 🧠 I have been in a bit of hibernation mode this last month (or so) so it’s time to get back out there! This Sunday 3/22 @ 2pm EST. I hope you can join me! What are some ways you boost your mood if you notice you’re feeling low?

Coffee Talk #2
Thank you so much @Diane Lombardo for showing up & chatting with me! Today we talked about what we let into our minds & how that can affects us- both good & bad. Standing guard at the portal of our minds is very important to protect our mental health & promote mental well-being. What are some ways you protect your mind from all the things that want you to pay attention???

Thank you! It was a great talk! You know my answer to that question but I can share with everyone else: I am limiting my consumption of news. I don't have to know everything that is happening. I just follow a few sources and then let it go. It is making a difference in my peace and mental health. I stay informed but I am not overwhelmed.
