Boa tarde Carl & Gumpers , I'm actually reading an article from 1978 on the Carnation revolution 4 years on . But do you have that funky jazzy clip ... " Because thirst for freedom overcame all fears " . I'm sure some of yous know I was to be in Portugal 20th April- 2 May but Sadly things happened in Belfast cathy ( minister of Home affairs) took ill . I've been a big lurker thumb up lots on catch up from Christmas starting to get back on track . Oh if Carl's posting that song maybe he could post link to the old whistle end of show song

'First time at the supermarket'
From newly-arrived @Sarah Davie ... (Parabens!) "Here is a question for you and the group. Going supermarket shopping is there anything I should add to the list eg something typically Portuguese or something the Portuguese buy that I buy or should try etc?" Definitely the freshly-squeezed bacalhau juice and canela ketchup! Did I miss anything folks?

Portugal does nicer black pudding than Ireland. Having eating both Irish more peppery oaty Portugal black pudding softer almost creamy in an after taste. Also thick I mean the THICK BREAD toasted coffee real butter heaven
Potatoes
What type of potatoes are commonly used in Portugal? When I was there, I noticed that the fries were more yellow than they are in the United States, where they are a light beige. I suspect it is a different type of potato than the Russet potato commonly used in the United States. Can anyone confirm this? I attached a picture of what the fries look like.

Being Irish we love a good potato. Maybe it's our damp weather local potatoes very soft needs watching when cooking . Good for a stew casserole need mashing as don't hold up well. Portugal potatoes very waxy boil great don't lose shape lovely coated with olive oil parsley salt . I think the difference is climate fields grown in cold wet Irish dry sunny great Portugal Spuds. As long as you eat potatoes 3 times a week with good veg your fine

In Belfast people usually can't manage a roundabout your likely to see an accident on a roundabout rather than a set of traffic lights.
