Gospel Bass influences
Name 3 bass players that have influenced your approach to playing Gospel! I’ll go first! For me it’s Justin Raines, Donald Alford & Matt Ramsey

The late, great Joey Grant. His sound is prominent without being overbearing, and I think the balance between the lows and highs were just phenomenal.. Daric Bennett. Daric is super clean in his playing and 90% of the time, strums/hits every single note that he plays, which are things I strive to achieve in my playing. My good friend Earl Brown. For me it’s his placement. He just plays things that may not necessarily be technically difficult, but where and when he chooses to do it is really what stands out for me.
Introduce Yourself!
Hey everyone, So excited to have you here. I'm Caleb and grew up playing bass in church but had no one to teach me & was self taught by force. Often we wear self taught as a badge of honour but it's not until I went to uni that I realised how limiting that was for me. Long story short, did my music degree & had a career as a professional bassist in TV, Film, The West End and session work. Now I teach on a music degree course and want to build a community to bring that level of education to people looking to play in church so you don't have to do it the hard way. Let’s learn from each other and let’s shed 👀 Please start by saying hi and introducing yourself below in the comments and let us know how long you've been playing & where you're based. Oh and also, this community is going to reach a wide range of people from different cultures, countries, communities and walks of life so be respectful with everyone and stick to talking about playing bass in church. Any ferocious doctrine or cultural debates will have you removed as that takes away from what this is for - helping people learn to play bass & serve better in churches.

What gear is everyone using?
Happy Sunday, I’m curious, what gear are you using? Basses, amps, pedals etc… & why?

@Fitz Jones I think - from my very limited knowledge lol - Anaconda can be considered as a young brand in comparison to some of the legacy brands out there, hence why they may not AS popular where you are. That said, they are still relatively popular int the states, and are still growing. Maurice Fitzgerald actually one, for example. Anaconda are a UK brand, so I’d imagine that coupled with their excellent playability, tones etc, and the fact that some of the UK’s best players use them, I think they’re getting much more exposure.
