Gospel Bass influences
Name 3 bass players that have influenced your approach to playing Gospel! I’ll go first! For me it’s Justin Raines, Donald Alford & Matt Ramsey
Introduce Yourself!
Hey everyone, So excited to have you here. I'm Caleb and grew up playing bass in church but had no one to teach me & was self taught by force. Often we wear self taught as a badge of honour but it's not until I went to uni that I realised how limiting that was for me. Long story short, did my music degree & had a career as a professional bassist in TV, Film, The West End and session work. Now I teach on a music degree course and want to build a community to bring that level of education to people looking to play in church so you don't have to do it the hard way. Let’s learn from each other and let’s shed 👀 Please start by saying hi and introducing yourself below in the comments and let us know how long you've been playing & where you're based. Oh and also, this community is going to reach a wide range of people from different cultures, countries, communities and walks of life so be respectful with everyone and stick to talking about playing bass in church. Any ferocious doctrine or cultural debates will have you removed as that takes away from what this is for - helping people learn to play bass & serve better in churches.

What’s good bass fam! I’m Ade, bass player from London. I’ve been playing bass now for close to 10 years but I’d say professionally 5 years. I’ve actually never met Caleb in person but we’ve conversed over social media for a little while now. Honoured to be a part of his great movement 🙌🏾 Quick question for everyone! Name 3 of your gospel bass influences 💬

@Caleb Wilson hopefully we can link up at some point this year and will post the question again!
Happy Sunday Family
What are you pushing for this year with your playing? I know many of you will have services this morning, but this year 2024 let’s push to raise the bar and play with excellence. Knowing that our role is more than good grooves and tasty licks but actually to help people into worship and usher in the presence of God 🔥 I’m really looking to disappear for a bit from making ‘content’ and prioritise real practice again. Want to get some Hadrien vocab under my hands and get more flow this year. What are you working towards with your playing this year?

Two things I’m working on this year are transcribing and knowing my fretboard inside out. In 2020 I started drop tuning my 5 string to B flat then eventually drop A. Sometimes I still get confused as to where I am mid lick past the 12th fret LOL. Hopefully with the help of this group I can gain some tips to overcome this 🙌🏾
