@Debra Verrall You'd like this cafe near me - they make milkshakes and then put cookies and candy in them. Even my kid (who's as nuts about sugar as me) can't finish the whole thing!)

@Ramona Greer That's a fair point about fruity being safe. Sometimes it's dark chocolate or cheap chocolate. Usually candy fruit flavors aren't awful. (Unless it's orange.)
The reason selling feels gross (and the fix that actually works)
Can I get on my soapbox for a minute? Most of us were taught that selling = convincing. So we write our posts like we're building a case. We stack the features (it's worth $$$$!). We add the urgency. We throw in a bonus (or two) and hope that tips it. And then... we feel a little weird afterward. And still don't have the conversions. Convincing someone to buy something they're not ready for is exhausting โ€“ for you AND for them. But reminding someone that the thing they already want exists โ€“ that feels completely different. (The shift is small. The result isn't.) Instead of "here's why you should buy this" โ€“ try writing from the angle of "here's what becomes possible when this problem is solved." Describe the after. Not the features. The feeling and emotions and beautiful visual description of the after. Because nobody buys a course or program or membership just because they really want to sit and go through a course. They buy the version of themselves who they hope will be at the end of it. Share the after, and then let the features be the proof. Ok. Stepping down from my soapbox ๐Ÿ˜œ

It's hard to nail down the transformation without having people go through it. Like, I can sit here and say, "This is how you're probably going to feel after you do this thing/get this program/join this membership," but until I actually have people do the thing or get the program or join the membership and start talking about their results, it's just fancy guesswork. But if I never take that step (even though I'm blindfolded in the dark), I'll never have people get *any* sort of transformation at all. But still...that first step is intimidating. (I tried to find a gif of Bugs saying, "Watch out for that first step, Mac. It's a lulu." But it doesn't seem to exist.)

Nobody's paying for information. (They never were.)
A student said something to me yesterday that I hear ALL the time. She's building her Skool community and she's excited โ€” but she's stuck on this one thought: "๐—ช๐—ต๐˜† ๐˜„๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฑ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜†๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐˜† ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ท๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ท๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ?" Here's the thing โ€” people aren't buying your thing for the info. Not really. Google exists. YouTube exists. Reddit exists. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini. And yet people still invest in memberships, courses, and coaching every. Single. Day. Because what they're actually paying for has nothing to do with information. They're paying for ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป โ€” someone already sorted through the noise and handed them exactly what they need, in the right order, at the right time. They're paying for ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† โ€” because knowing someone else is watching makes you actually do the thing. They're paying for ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† โ€” being around other people on the same path changes what feels possible. They're paying for ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜ โ€” knowing what to do and doing it with help are two entirely different experiences. They're paying for ๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ โ€” figuring it out alone takes three times as long. They're paying for ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ โ€” having someone tell you yes, you're on the right track is way more valuable than most people admit. The free internet gives you ingredients. Your community gives them the kitchen, the recipe, someone to cook alongside, and an experienced guide who's made this dish a hundred times. That's not just information. That's transformation!! So if you've been sitting on your offer idea because you're worried nobody will pay โ€” this is your sign to stop letting that thought run the show. ๐Ÿ‘‡ Drop a ๐Ÿ™‹ below if this has been living in YOUR head too.

Thank you for breaking it down like this! I think this exactly proves your point - all across the internet is the idea that "people buy transformation," "lead with transformation," "show them what life will be like after"....but that's always felt so nebulous to me. Being able to put labels on the *kind* of support they'll get (as you put it: curation, accountability, community, implementation support, speed, confidence) - THAT is a game-changer for my messaging. (And why I'm in *this* community! ๐Ÿ˜‰)

@Olivia Radcliffe Yes! Especially once I get a membership up and running, that will really hit all of those areas. As for the others, I'd like to think a lot of my messaging communicates confidence and speed, even to cold traffic (which, let's be honest, is most of my traffic right now).
