question about ads for wide stores
anyone done much with running ads for wide stores? (does a direct to destination, say, like KOBO) tend to work? I'd imagine it may be more niche.. but-- are the ads cost comparable to what ads for amazon run?

@Jill Cooper Would those appear as clickable links in the primary text or do they have to cut and paste? I've been trying to send readers to a landing page with links to all the stores and it's not working well at all.
Where are your spoons going this week?
Real talk for the middle of the week. You have a limited number of spoons in a day. Energy units. And the publishing world will happily eat every one of them with drama, doom-scrolling, and arguments that change nothing. Choose where your spoons go. The author who guards her energy and quietly gets the work done will outlast the one who burns out winning internet fights. Keep your head down. Get stuff done. What is stealing your spoons this week? Name it here. Sometimes saying it out loud is how you take the energy back.

Spoons are going to being on the road, bouncing in the front cab of a converted ambulance/RV. Setting up camp or being social with family we are visiting. Today is a long requested down day and I've been watching catch-up videos. Haven't even looked at my ads in 10 days.

I connected my image and video generator Magnific to Claude Code with a MCP connection and then told Claude what I wanted him to do. He wrote the prompts and made the videos, the music and the closing card. Apparently, Magnific doesn't have the capability of doing text on the videos (according to Claude), so he saw that I also had Canva connected, and he uploaded the files to Canva for me. However, when I went into Canva, I couldn't see how to add the sound, so I moved over to DaVinci Resolve and put things together over there. The text was a bit awkward because they only have "Titles" there, but I tried to make it work. I asked Claude to do it both in a square version and in a 9:16 vertical version, and he gave me assets for both. I didn't have time to make the vertical one, so I just have the square one here.

Thanks for sharing this. I think I am going through my third attempt at reinventing myself and my author career. I enjoy reading about others who share their journeys because it helps me not to beat myself up as much. Like Brenda, I no longer have it in me to want to be a machine... not sure I ever did and that was part of the problem. Now I'm finding joy in the process again and learning new skills in this crazy AI world. I appreciate and am grateful for your pivot to education. There are too many out there jumping on the Education Wagon who don't have the background the two of you do.

I would like to know more about what kind of images to create. I've worked extensively with Claude and Gemini brainstorming and trying to come up with ideas, but I'm not happy with the results. Mostly, they suggest images portraying an event from the story. It seems to me that with romance and fantasy and outer space and cozy anything, you can create beautiful images that make a reader want to go spend time in that world. I've always written gritty mystery/suspense, DaVinci Code-like globe-trotting thrillers, and only recently did this WWII historical that still has intrigue and espionage. I'm not sure that readers want to feel like they are IN that world. They want to be on the outside looking in. In the past, these books have sold well, and I have fans. How do I hook new readers?
