Packaging Changes based on a Video's Lifecycle
Hey all, I'd be curious to hear your strategies around having different sets of packaging options based on where a given video is on its life cycle. Has anyone had success with this or any tips on how to apply this strategy? For example, having different thumbnail/titling for "core audience" out of the gate, then a different set for "casual viewers" after the video has pass the core audience, and then a final set for a wider grouping of new viewers later in the video's life cycle. This is something that my team has tested on a very limited basis but haven't dumped enough resources in consistently to decide if this is strategy is worth deploying. One specific use-case, one of our channels absolutely crushes with our core audience, its a niche Minecraft channel, with essentially one framework. First hour CTR is great, we'll optimize our thumbnail with A/B testing and we'll maintain a nice run of views for about 6 days or so. But after it surpasses our core our view trajectory drops substantially. This is where I'm wondering if having different sets of packaging options that are targeted very deliberately at a wider audience is worth making and deploying. I'd appreciate anyone sharing their thoughts/experiences. Thanks in advance!

@Jonathan David For sure. That's the ideal. I think we've essentially pigeon holed ourselves on this channel. We changed our packaging and video structure about a year ago and it worked really well, so much so that we shifted to this one framework but I think what ultimately happened is that we're now pulling a big share of views from an overall smaller audience pool. There's only one other channel outside of ours that does this type of content successfully. I suspect that we may have isolated ourselves from the larger group of viewers. Now every time we change our packaging out of the gate to something more evergreen, it doesn't make it past our core audience, so we're almost forced to continue on with the packaging that gets us past our core. But you're right, point remains - the best approach is likely to keep trying new packaging options that appeals to our core and beyond. Thanks for the input!

Hey everyone! I'm the Production Manager for a Logdotzip Studios, overseeing the creative and logistics to some of the most popular Minecraft YT channels (Craftee, Kipper, Logdotzip). I come from the traditional Film & TV world working as a producer and coordinator but have been working in YT for 3 years now. I'm looking to learn as much as I can and branch out of the Minecraft/gaming niche to appeal to a more broad client-base.
