Driving 4 Dollars & Appointments Safety Tips (especially for women)
Hey guys I wanted to share a few safety tips when working in your local market in-person, especially as a woman it never hurts to stay prepared. - Be familiar with the areas you're marketing in (sticky notes and bandit signs) before you go to them. Use Google Earth to view neighborhoods you're unfamiliar with, and create a mental map of it. Never go in blind! - Plan your routes to the best of your ability before you go. This way instead of wasting time trying to scope out every opportunity, you'll already have set targets in mind. This keeps you focused rather than distracted. Be open to new opportunities still as they come up but don't get lost looking for them! - Watch out for dogs! Sometimes people just let them roam free around the property. If you do come across an aggressive one, then remain calm, back away from it slowly, and avoid sudden movements to indicate you are not a threat to their territory. - If you come across sketchy neighborhoods, don't go alone. If you're like me and don't have anyone to go with you, then market to those sketchy areas with texts, calls, emails, or direct mail instead. No deal is worth your risking your safety! - Stay prepared. Be aware of your surroundings. Walk with confidence, keep your head up, and your posture strong. Stand tall like you belong there, because you do. - Perpetrators go for easy targets, so don't look like one. Be someone they'd regret messing with. It's in how you carry yourself, not just in how you look. - Don't keep any valuables on you. Just your marketing materials, a pen, phone, and a form of concealed protection. - If you can get your license to carry, then do it. Bear spray, pepper spray, other forms of protection. Keep them on you. That doesn't mean jump to using them, but it gives peace of mind if you were to ever end up in a situation where it was needed while on your routes. It's highly unlikely you will ever need it, but it's better to be prepared. - As a woman, what you wear especially in business matters. Your outfit speaks before you do. Often you will be treated with more respect if you dress in a professional way. Cover up! Be classy. It doesn't have to be a full suit or dress situation, but don't wear anything that can provoke certain thoughts/behaviors. You will often be working with men or husbands/wives as motivated sellers, and when you dress respectfully/professionally the outcome tends to be much better. - And most of all, I don't say this in a religious way but just from my own experiences I know it works. Before you drive or go to any appointments, make sure to pray and speak prosperity, peace, and protection over your life and that of the people you're working with. It sets the tone for a successful day, and grants you peace within your heart and mind that you can do anything you set out to do.
