Introducing TimeWise: The Four Arenas of Human Time
If you have been following along, you've likely noticed that I have been gesturing towards a new movement happening here at Monk Manual. Our tools aren't going away. We are just going deeper. We want to help people build a new foundation for their time and work, and by extension a new foundation for their life. Across my work with individuals over the past 8 years, a pattern has emerged. The real work for individuals is not time management. The real work for individuals is time leadership. "Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things" - Peter Drucker Moving forward, as we enter into the early phases of a new industrial revolution through AI, the Monk Manual exists to provide an alternative to commodity-based time and work. We want to provide a bridge for people to move from a life built for machines, to a life built for humans. This feels timely and important. We've just released the foundational videos for TimeWise in the classroom. I hope you'll take some time to check them out. Posting this material in late winter (North America) is such a great season to post. Right as the natural energy begins to shift and spark again. Gives time to process it and incorporate it into the upcoming growth. Great call by the team.
there you are!
Somehow missed the transition to this platform from the Facebook group (I’d wondered why it had got so quiet!). Glad to reconnect w fellow monk manual-ers!

Welcome! Definitely check out the classroom tab. There are some recordings and writings over there. Sounds like it will not be an intro, but a refresh may be helpful!

TimeWise Workshop Recording
Hello! The recording of the TimeWise Workshop is up in the classroom. Comment here with your insights or clarity from the workshop!

Thank you for posting the recording! I noticed that clarity, confidence, and commitment showed up without composure and consistency. Are those two secondary to the other three? Do they relate more to the day-to-day than longer time-frames? I really struggled to remember all five, so I am curious if the reduction was intentional.

@Kathrin Sandall, sorry to be cryptic! I was thinking of the 5 C’s from session 5 of the path. It was definitely one of my favorite lessons. The list Steve gave in this workshop was similar but different. I didn’t know if they were related. @Patricia Sheerin , did you notice the similarity too? Do you have any thoughts? I remember you’ve posted about the 5C’s before.
Small Reflection > Big Productivity
At the end of the TimeWise “Slow Down to Speed Up” workshop, Steve mentioned that two ounces of reflection is often better than 2 tons of doing. When I think of year in review, I think of all the categories of personhood (social, emotional, spiritual, financial, etc.) and how long it takes to think through each category. You may have seen a year in review structured this way. It seems reflection operates on different principals than I am used to, and one of those is potency. Think about food coloring, vanilla extract, or a laser pointer. The Q&A reflection of the first TimeWise workshop is only thirty minutes, but the connections which emerge from that short time of meditation on 2025 is really incredible. In fact, having 40+ days of 2026 to pair with the reflection helps the patterns emerge even more. Allow yourself the gift of a couple ounces of reflection this weekend.

One of the most important relationships in our life is the relationship we have to ourselves. If we step back and pay attention to the voice in our head, we are often far more critical, mean-spirited, and harsh to ourselves than we would ever be to another. If you struggle with being kind and loving to others, recognize that this is most likely due to the fact that you struggle to be kind and loving to yourself. If you don’t allow love to come in, you won’t be able to let love come out. THIS WEEK: Forgive yourself. Start new. Whatever it is, whatever you’ve done, forgive yourself. Right now. Renew your marriage vows to yourself and begin again.

My pastor often uses a saying “judged people judge people”. It has been very helpful for me to realize how judged I felt when that is not how God or my community see me. Even last week I was feeling “behind” all week before pausing Saturday and Sunday to realize that sense of dread was only coming from me. God’s forgiveness and love are never ending, why would I put a cap on it? Thank you!
