I’m upset
I understand Infant Swimming Research but I have never seen a training where they throw the baby in the pool and then touch the baby shoulders and submerge them underwater, then put their wet jacket over their face. It was just to much- and back to back…

What was the point of all that??? I get practicing a real world scenario where a child would fall in clothed, but a child that young would not get entangled in a jacket because they wouldn't be have the cognitive skills to remove it in the first place. And there also wouldn't be an adult throwing a distressed child around. I will practice some skills when my child is a bit tired just because she tends to elope after she has been playingfor a bit and I want to make sure she can still find air if she isnt completely fresh. I wouldn't ever do any of this if my kid/student was this stressed though. There are ways to help instill resilience without a kid gaining a terrible fear of water.

@Neva Fairfield yeah this is insane behavior.
Treading water
Any suggestions or tips for teaching an older kid ,11-12, to tread water? Maybe some fun drills or a game? He’s doing decent with regular swimming and floating so it feels like this would be the natural next step but it’s just not clicking and this is the first skill I’ve really had any issues with him on. I’m just having a mental block on this…

@Neva Fairfield thanks for this. I really struggle to teach this for preschoolers but this should definitely help!
