Flute or Tuba Serenity Circles?!?
It's easier for me to imagine a flute serenity circle than a tuba serenity circle. But thanks to this comic I can imagine it ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคช One of these days we'll get some tubists to come join us in improvising. I think I'm going to host a Flutarians Retreat in 2027. There will definitely be some meditative flute time!!!

Did you ever think about this? - Ever seen "Flautas" on the menu at a Mexican food restaurant? I don't know about where you live, but "Mexican food" (aka "Tex-Mex") is very popular here in Austin, Texas. What about you? One day I realized that "flautas" means flutes - and they're called that because, guess what! They're shaped like flutes!!! Right?

I learned that in Spanish class :)
Are conductors really necessary?
Someone told me a story about how, when the conductor couldn't come, the orchestra simply followed the first violist, aka concert master. That got me thinking... "I mean, are conductors really necessary??" I've played enough "chamber music" - aka music in small ensembles without a conductor - that I've learned how to rely on the other musicians and myself to know when to come in, what tempo to go, etc... Playing without a conductor certainly necessitates more independence than playing with one! Acting independently - it's a critical skill for improvising! Come practice it tonight with me in Improv Games ๐Ÿ˜Ž Which Improv Games can you come to this week? Sunday 1pm CT Monday 7pm CT Tues 12pm CT Wed 6:30pm CT

When Toscanini passed away the orchestra kept performing without a conductor as no one could fill his shoes. In my experience flute groups of up to five do ok without a conductor.

Don't you think Piano's easier to start playing than flute?
I mean, at least with 1 note at a time? Doesn't it take some people hours to be able to get just ONE note on the flute?

My mom was a piano teacher and I started lessons with her at age 4. I didn't start flute until age 8. The hands aren't big enough usually until that age, but there are special flutes made for younger kids.
