How to wear heavier fragrances here in America or Europe like they do in the Middle East during the summer.
In places like Dubai and across the Middle East, fragrance is part of daily life in a much bigger way than it is here. A lot of people assume they are wearing massive amounts of heavy oud in extreme heat all day, but most of the time it is more controlled and intentional than people think. A big part of it is how they wear fragrance. A lot of Middle Eastern fragrance wearers apply heavier scents closer to the skin or on clothing instead of overspraying exposed skin. Oils, oud blends, musks, and incense fragrances are often applied in smaller amounts and refreshed throughout the day instead of trying to create a giant projection cloud all at once. Many people also wear stronger scents more in the evening, at dinners, gatherings, malls, or indoor social settings where air conditioning is everywhere. Another thing is that oud, amber, musk, rose, saffron, and incense are culturally normal there. People grow up around bakhoor, oud smoke, attars, and rich fragrance oils, so heavier scents are associated with cleanliness, luxury, hospitality, and presentation rather than something “too strong.” Their scent tolerance is different because those smells are part of everyday life. A lot of people also misunderstand Middle Eastern summer fragrances. They are not always thick syrupy winter bombs. Many are actually built to work in heat using airy oud, dry woods, musks, saffron, incense, citrus openings, mineral notes, or transparent rose-oud combinations instead of dense sweetness. You can wear fragrance the same way here in America if you approach it differently: * focus on controlled application instead of overspraying * spray clothing lightly instead of only skin * use oils or attars in smaller amounts * save denser oud fragrances for evenings or indoor settings * wear dry woody ouds, incense, musks, saffron, or airy amber styles in warmer weather * layer lighter fresh fragrances with woods or musks instead of wearing only ultra-fresh scents all summer * think of fragrance as part of grooming and presentation, not just projection

Beauty in a bottle
I was getting my nose on a few Jo Malone fragrances and decided to pick up this one. To me it’s a calm subtle fragrance that sits with you but doesn’t project real loud. Sweet powdery amber very much unisex that my wife and I enjoy it. I really like the almond, tonka, vanilla, and hits of lavender that makes this really enjoyable to smell on myself as well as her.

@Reginald Clark or you can get away with it indoors or to be totally honest with you even when there’s heat instead of putting it on your wrist you just do one or two light sprays underneath your shirt also works.

@Reginald Clark no problem that is why in the Middle East they wear those heavy lids in the summer. The only time they will spray on their wrist is during the winter and if not, and it is summer, they will spray under a shirt and then maybe one spray on the back of the neck or on your back they may add one more spray if they’re in a controlled environment and it depends on the sprayer if you could spray it light or if you have to go full blast.
PDM Haltane (1/3)
Last of my PDM samples. I didn’t even realise until I checked today. Before trying it, I was a bit gutted to be ending on a fragrance I had never seen anyone talk about. That changed quickly once I tried it. The opening made me go “wow”. The note breakdown didn’t make much sense to me because right off the bat I got bergamot freshness, sage and lavender aromatics, sweet praline, and warm saffron. Stays the same in the mids with less freshness and the dry down becomes simpler, with the warmth stepping back and a touch of sweetness remaining alongside oud, patchouli, leather, and vetiver. It’s luxurious, warm, fruity, woody, leathery, slightly green, and perfectly balanced. Definitely a cool to cold weather frag. It’s everything I wanted Oud for Greatness to be. This also confirms my oud tolerance. Anything stronger than this feels unnecessary (sorry not sorry @Paul Bartnicki) I don’t think I can give an accurate performance estimate today as my skin is supposedly dehydrated. However, this is roughly a 7-10+ hr fragrance with strong projection for the first few hrs. The sillage and scent trail are excellent too. I really like this DNA and want to explore more fragrances in this space. I don’t want to be blinded by just this one, so suggestions are welcome. I’ve heard Widian Liwa and Ormonde Jayne Muscat sits in a similar realm. Overall, I’m giving it a 9.7/10. It smells objectively perfect. Second only to Cedrat Boise for me. Luckily it’s not popular and has no good clones, so it could easily be a signature scent. I still need to retest performance, but the fragrance itself is excellent. Points deducted for lack of uniqueness and the price tag. Top 3 PDM for me and possibly the first I purchase. Currently it’s a top 10 fragrance of all time for me. What are your thoughts on this?

Slay the Scent:  Odyssey Aoud by Armaf
I guess this is Armaf's attempt to take a stab at an Oud for Greatness style fragrance. In my opinion, the only one that comes close to the Initio Original is Lattafa's Oud for Glory. In fairness they do have it in the ballpark, but it lacks that knockout.I've had my nose on many of these Odyssey flankers and the only one that I enjoyed was Odyssey Black. This is a woody spicy fragrance. Released in 2023 as part of the popular Odyssey collection. It starts off with a vibrant, aromatic opening, where a prominent trio of saffron, nutmeg & lavender creates a spicy, slightly medicinal & clean introduction. As the fragrance transitions into the heart, the agarwood takes center stage, supported by a blend of woody notes that provide a dry, sturdy structure without being overly animalic or harsh. The dry down is where the fragrance finds its l depth; a base of patchouli, ambroxan &musk creates a smooth, earthy, and slightly sweet trail that lingers on the skin, giving the oud a velvety finish that feels both modern and masculine. In terms of performance, Odyssey Oud is a heavy hitter that punches well above its weight class. It offers impressive longevity, typically lasting between 8 to 10 hours on skin and even longer on clothing, while the projection is strong for the first two hours before settling into a consistent, noticeable scent bubble. Due to its dense, warm, and spicy character, it is best suited for the fall and winter months, as cold air helps to temper its intensity. It is a quintessential evening fragrance, making it an excellent choice for formal occasions, date nights, or any event where you want to project an aura of confidence and mystery. My Rating 6/10 Scent 1.5 Longevity 2 Sillage 1.5 Y/N 1
