With 30 years of memories and stories from encounters with movie and tv actors, I was often asked about them, and I had always thought about writing the book. Then, sharing some of my collectibles in videos on YouTube, many would ask me about them, so...it was time to Tell All!
Cover Cwestions...
GetCovers.com was mentioned by Stephen Shapiro in another post and I didn't want to hijack it to ask him about it there, so I am putting it out here! When I first began writing my book I looked through Thousands of images at many online sites for DIY covers (as I prefer to do things myself when possible) and eventually found Canva. Finally, One Image stopped my scrolling and I made a cover! Since then I have read Bad things about using Canva! After checking out getcovers just now, I like the potential to get More of what I created in my head, before I decided on my Canva option, which I Do Like a Lot! I have already Used it on my website and have spread it around in all my Socials, as well as on Business Cards! Do I Dare Wipe Out all Evidence of my Canva cover (destroy 500 business cards, delete the image everywhere online!) and go for a New Option, and possibly see what was in my head over a year ago become a reality?! I can Describe what I envisioned for the cover and post my Canva one if it is allowed. Thanks!

This is discouraging...not a single suggestion! Not even a comment in a month?!

@Owen Bergman Thank you...yes, it is somewhat whimsical, the stories of my career in The Biz and the Stars that I encountered in 30 years. The description of what I had envisioned for the cover was more light-hearted than it Reads, I guess! But I'm happy with the cover I ended up with! It's gotten positive feedback, especially the sub-title!
BURNING IN EDITING HELL!
Having No Guidance when I began writing my book, I dove into Google Docs and ended up with over 800 pages, with hundreds of Pictures throughout the manuscript. (It is now split into 2 books and I am working with the first.) But...as I went along and Learned more, I realized that I had created a Monster, because Now I have Converted it into several other formats in order to FIX The Mistakes! And I have Failed! I tried PDF and that was useless. Made it into a DOCX file and tried to use Autocrit...then a ODT file and Reedsy is just a Mess! Everything "looks" okay on Google Docs, but when it is saved as anything else it is Horrible and I Can't Fix it in Any format! Now what?!

@Julie Broad Thank you both, Julie and Rob...I didn't know about Google Docs when I began writing! I had first just Asked How To Write a Book and all I got were Sales Pitches until someone finally said to simply use Google Docs! It wasn't till 800+ pages Later that I learned That was a Mistake! Not looking forward to "starting over!" But...it will soon be Summer in Arizona, so I Won't want to even Think about Going Outside, so there's my "incentive!" 😁
Does the word DEAD kill the book? Cover feedback needed
Working on the final version of my book cover and I'm going back and forth regarding the weight of the word DEAD. Much appreciated any comment, any feedback before the launch! I'm showing three variants: Version A β€” STOP and DEAD same size (equal weight, reads as STOP DEAD at a glance) Version B β€” DEAD smaller (STOP dominates, DEAD recedes) Version C β€” the hardcover version My concern: does DEAD as a standalone word create resistance when it as big as the word STOP? Tell me honestly: 1. Which version would you click on as a thumbnail? 2. Does the word DEAD put you off, is it a deterrent, or does it create curiosity? 3. Can you tell the genre immediately? 4. Does any version look like a bestseller, and if not, what's missing

I prefer the First one. Over-emphasizing the word DEAD is distracting and it should read as Part of the subject, which is Markets, specifically Dead ones! πŸ™‚
