I rode Break Through on Tuesday from McCoys to Uptown. It was in good shape. Also rode Paper Route to Timber Ridge and down to Eagle Lodge. Decent shape with a lot of obstacles.
Closure of the Backside
I understand that it is spring and the crowds are down (not counting this past Saturday), but I’m disappointed that chairs 12, 13 and 14 (and the Outpost) are closed for the season. Its been a spring tradition the ski the backside on the weekends and enjoy a beer on the deck. Apparently more downsizing but a frustrating, disappointing action by MMSA.

Yep, understood. Fortunately, Mammoth had some good crowds this weekend. Cars were parked solid between Chair 4 and the Main Lodge.

@Steve Taylor That is crazy. Still a solid base and good skiing to be had. Rentals are also a good deal right now (I can even pay the excessive TAT 😜).
Change in the Weather Friday into Sunday...
Mammoth WX Summary: A spring low-pressure system is starting to affect the higher elevations this morning with increased winds and cooler temperatures. This system will be a slow mover and will bring chances of rain and snow showers to the area Friday into Sunday. The best chance for snow accumulation will be late Friday night and through the day on Saturday. Snow levels will start at around 7000 feet and drop to 6000 feet before sunrise on Saturday. Snowfall accumulations above the 9000-foot level look in the 1-3 inch range. Spring returns next week, with corn snow sessions returning by Tuesday and lasting through the following weekend under ridging.

Chilly out on the hill today. A couple of inches of snow on hard, firm snow. Had to stick to the groomers since nothing else softened up.
Snow Conditions as of April 12th
Snow Conditions: Welcome to spring conditions. At the start of each day, the snow is groomed to a fast, carvable surface on the groomers. Later in the morning, the snow softens into an evolving corn snow surface. Snowman likes the snow soft, so I start my early to mid-April days at 9:30 AM and head over to the East Bowl chair 9 / 25 area for some silver-lined groomer corn runs. By mid-morning, the mid-mountain groomers loosen up, and runs like Solitude and Saddle Bowl are perfect. You can also ride to the top, hit up a groomed Cornice Bowl, and then ride down World Cup to St Anton once the race ropes get pulled. Off the groomed runs, the snow has turned to a nice spring surface, and all the mid and upper mountain runs are now converted. The warm days forecast for today and Thursday are going to loosen up that snow big time. By late morning, there should be some all-time great April corn snow on Sign Line, Sunshine, and the Drop Outs. For those who love wet corn snow, it’s going to be a slush fest midday. Just writing about this snow makes me want to get out there NOW. 🙂 What Can We Expect for the Rest of April 2025? Planning a spring trip to the ski area? Here’s what to know about snow and operations this month. Snow conditions over the next three weeks typically mix classic spring corn snow and the occasional wintery day. Over the years, I’ve seen April go completely dry and I’ve also witnessed storms drop over 100 inches in both the first and second halves of the month. It’s a true mixed bag during this transition into full spring. All lifts, runs, lodges, and shuttle routes will remain open through April 20th (weather permitting). After that, Spring Operations will shift to the Main Lodge only. Lift hours currently run from 8:30 AM to 4 PM daily but will switch to 7:30 AM – 2 PM in a few weeks. Key Closing Dates – Snow Season 2025: - Tamarack Cross Country Ski Area: Hard closure by the Forest Service on April 16th. After that, Fat Bikes and Snowmobiles will be allowed in the Mammoth Lakes Basin. - Little Eagle Lodge & Canyon Lodge: Final day of operations is Sunday, April 20th. There’s plenty of snow to make it to that date without issue. - Main Lodge & The Mill: Expect these to stay open through Memorial Day Weekend. We’ll update if the season gets extended due to snowpack conditions.

Is the plan to close Canyon and Eagle Lodges after April 20? Heading up on April 24 and figuring out my kickoff location.
