Lifestyle photos matter more than you think. Not because they’re “pretty.” But because they answer a question your audience is already asking: “Where does this fit in my life?” A bookmark on a desk is a product. A bookmark inside a well-loved book, next to morning light and a cup of tea~ or dried flowers~ that’s a moment. That’s connection. You don’t need a full studio setup to do this well. Start simple: • Natural light (window > overhead lighting) • Real environments (your desk, your studio, your home) • Objects that support~ not distract • Let the work stay the focus Think in scenes, not just shots. Where would someone actually use this? What does it feel like to hold, use, or live with your work? Lifestyle photos aren’t about perfection. They’re about context. And context builds trust. If you’re up for it~ (no pressure) share one lifestyle shot below 👇 (or your first attempt—we’re building this together) Thank you @Christopher Foster for taking these~! They turned out great~!

Such practical business advice for artists. Love your book-arts, too!
A night owl in the studio~
Some pieces arrive with a plan. Others show up in the quiet. Tonight’s been one of those slower, steadier studio nights~ ink, gold, a few finished bookmarks, and a few still finding their footing. There’s something I still love about that in-between stage, where the work is half instinct, half listening. Not everything needs to be loud and extra to be meaningful. Sometimes it’s just brush to paper, a little (or maybe more than a little) gold catching the light, and the kind of gentle silence that helps things come into focus. A few finished, a few still in progress, and all of them part of the same conversation.

Prompt Me: FRAGMENT
This Week’s Word~ FRAGMENT Not every idea arrives whole. Sometimes creativity begins with a piece of something~ a color, a shape, a memory, a line of text, a small detail that refuses to leave you alone. Fragments are the beginnings of stories, images, and discoveries. What starts as something incomplete can slowly grow into something unexpected. This week’s prompt is about pieces and beginnings. FRAGMENT can be physical (broken forms, torn paper, scattered objects), emotional (memories, fleeting moments, unfinished thoughts), or symbolic (ideas forming slowly, something incomplete becoming whole). There’s no single right interpretation~ follow where the word leads you. 🎨 Create: An artwork inspired by the idea of fragment. ✏️ Optional directions: • Pieces coming together to form something new • Incomplete shapes or broken forms • A moment captured in part rather than whole • Memory fragments or fleeting thoughts • Layers or collage-like compositions Let the process guide you. Sometimes the smallest fragments are where the most interesting ideas begin. Share your piece in the community when you’re ready~ we’d love to see how your fragment evolves.

My favourite cup broke this week, the one I purchased to replace the first that broke! I now have two I need to fix with the Kintsugi repair kit I bought after the first one broke. This is going to make them both even better than before. I was almost excited in a good way when I saw that the second one didn’t fare as well as I’d initially hoped during its fall from the drying rack into the sink after I’d precariously positioned it on a plate. These two Hasami cups are pieces of art, to me, and I’m grateful I will still be able to drink from them. One broke above the handle and the other’s handle broke (but I can still hold it by putting my finger through the handle without putting pressure on the handle). Feels like the universe is speaking. Guess it’s time to deal with this.
And we are Live~!
Bring your questions or if you just want to co-work~! ^_^

🌙✨ A Small Moment of Magic — Luna Moths Emerging ✨🌙
Over the past year, I had the opportunity to rear a group of Luna moths from eggs~ tiny lives that began in an unexpected place (rescued from the inside of a friend’s car, of all things). After months of growth, cocooning, and overwintering, they are now beginning to emerge. There is something quietly profound about witnessing this stage. A cocoon that has been still for months suddenly moves. A seam opens. A soft, folded creature pulls itself into the world. For a few hours, gravity and time reshape it~ wings expand, colors deepen, and a moth that will live only about a week prepares for its one purpose: to fly, to find connection, and to continue the cycle. Luna moths don’t even eat as adults. Everything they need for their brief life is carried from their caterpillar stage. It’s a powerful reminder that growth often happens long before we see the results. Nature works on timelines that are patient, layered, and deeply intentional. As artists and creators, we’re not so different. We spend long periods learning, experimenting, and building quietly. Then one day, something emerges ~ a skill, a project, a voice~ that feels like it appeared overnight, even though it was forming all along. If you’re in a season where things feel slow or hidden, trust that process. Transformation is still happening. I’ll be releasing these moths at dusk over the coming days so they can continue their natural life cycle. It feels like sending small wishes back into the world. 🌿 Reflection for today: Where in your creative life are you currently in the “cocoon” stage~ growing in ways others might not see yet?
