“Eco-acoustics” or “sonic blooms” can help plants grow
Do you love hearing birds sing in the morning? So do our plants, and maybe even the microbes in the soil, too! Studies show that music actually stimulates cell activity through sound waves. So, do you listen to music while you’re gardening, and if so, what kind do your plants prefer? https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1Gcz3RFVCD/?mibextid=wwXIfr Here’s a study specifically on rapid growth of soil fungi activity when sounds are played. https://news.flinders.edu.au/blog/2024/02/06/acoustic-juice-for-soil-recovery/#:~:text=A%20study%20from%20Flinders%20University%20found%20that,in%20Petri%20dishes%20for%20only%20five%20days

@Jim Flach I think so. But that’s without directly testing and seeing what life is actually down there. Some quick ways to increase WEOC are cover crops, grass crops, limited tillage, and manures/litters. Baby is doing well! Just started rolling over haha

@Dennis Wichter we’re supposed to present the data to some pretty large farmer groups in the weeks to come. I’d be happy to share once we’ve done that!

Some of you may know who Matt Powers is. He hosts these free week long events every year. I'll try to catch some of these. This will likely be pretty nerdy stuff from my experience but TONS of info. https://matt-powers.mykajabi.com/offers/dY6C6Sz6/checkout

Matt is great! His book on regenerative soils is worth every $

@Dennis Wichter we look at it on every soil test. Unfortunately most that I look at are 2-3%. Like 5% would be amazing on some fields. My approach is typically to influence and build water extractable organic carbon (WEOC) in the short term. Some of the cover croppers and compost users that I work with are aiming to influence SOM, but I would say that it’s not attainable for the majority of commercial growers in the US. At least not with industry standard practices

@Dennis Wichter it comes from the Haney test. And correlates to microbial respiration. I believe those studies for sure. I only know of a few farmers that use compost and make their own
