SPARRING FOOTAGE
few clips from one of my sparring sessions. thinking about making a breakdown video so you guys can see the mentality behind everything here, thereโ€™s definitely at least something you can all take away from this.

Beautiful footwork, im jealous of how well you can constantly go inside and out and change the angle. I gotta work more on this.
Some Sparring
I definitely need to sit in the pocket and learn to punch without moving i move way too much but i did land some decent counter punches

Okay bro i like what you are doing, but i feel there are things in this situation can be worked on. 1. Please Keep it a habit to have your hands up to your chin or higher. Personally when im trying to improve a defensive skill, sparring is the best in my opinion but i think its better to learn things one at a time. Such as you first learn how to parry, then to catch shots on your block, then you put those together, and then you can start bringing other stuff. 2.When you throw a punch, you must throw with the intent to hit. If i dont have intent im just wasting energy because it will be likely i will miss and offer an opening to my body or head. If your throwing a double jab, you want your second jab to be where your fist or elbow would be behind or next to their face. (To guarantee it lands and it gets you in the pocket.) 3.I would recommend getting used to getting in and out of the pocket instead of staying in the pocket. im a shorter fighter. at some point, there's going to be a fighter who knows how to use range and create space. if you cant cut off the ring, i would prefer going inside and out of range. Throw 1-3 shots then back off and re-enter. 4.Also just another tip, it helped me well. Get used to moving left and right laterally, change it up. At some point it gets predictable and feels easy to take advantage off. Change the Rhythm. I Drilled on the Bag, in spar, and shadowboxed myself getting used to synchronising my feet with my hand and feeling comfortable to punch going left and right. i Usually prefer to stay in my orthodox stance. If you got something you disagree with, have trouble understanding or smt else, dont be afraid to ask either. This is all of my opinion, advice and it could differ to what other people say, my best advice is if you have a coach dont be afraid to ask them.
focused on taking small steps today!
Notice i back out of range after entering too much so i wanna focus on after entering range maybe take a small step but keep my place and still throw or defend!

Oh bro if u want to focus on after entering the range i think Joe Fraizer, or Dwight Muhammed Qawi would be great watches for that. Qawi was a master at getting inside his opponents. Its been a while since i have watched Dwight Muhammad Qawi but im pretty sure he also had good fundamentals Joe Fraizer is just fundamentally one of the best inside fighters ever.

So i ran 3 miles sunday and went to instagram found some boxers kinda close that go to another gym i asked if they would mind boxing a newbie for experience and we met up same second, these are the rounds im very disappointed in my ability to throw shots back after defending idk couldnโ€™t find range but first time actually slipping and dodging/ blocking punches was soo cool gotta learn how to absorb impact and move lateral so i dont give up the close range i fight for and gotta use my jab alottttt more

I'm going to assume your are with the red headgear with the baggy t-shirt. 1.First Spar - Please Punch with intention, Instead of it just Hitting your opponent, aim for it to go through or hurt your opponent. - If the First Jab does not hit then move forward to where your range would allow your next jab to be behind their head. This will help you better on closing the distance with the jab. - Short Combinations. (Going to body or head or both) - Keep Inside Shots for Inside like close hooks and uppercuts. (you can wait for them to come inside or you can go inside). - Often when the opponent is taller they tend to abuse their straights a lot more, if they are aggressive, keep moving your angle and don't be scared to make them waste their energy, though this is abet risky. - If the opponent is passively jabbing, keep a good flow of head movement so that you don't keep it off centre, this will also increase your shot selection as you can roll or slip with some shots. - In & Out, Go in through 3-4 punches max, Get out with a movement, Rinse and Repeat. - Also when you are blocking, try to block with the same side like you are mirroring, this will allow for less counters from your opponent compared to if your block diagonally. - I get that your trying to do philly shell but at least have the hand or hands that's up close to your chin or cheek, its not worth taking free shots to the head when they can be stopped. - Your Chin and Temple will knock you heavily off balanced if u receive a hard shot to these areas. - You are looking down when rolling (Bobbing and Weaving). Please keep some kind of watch on your opponent, im taught to keep my head up as if you drop your head you wont see any shots coming and make yourself vulnerable. - Air Punches(Hands leave face but dont even hit opponent), Don't throw these even if u call them feints, it just wastes energy and leaves you vulnerable. - Change Rotation (Puts opponent off balance as moving in one rotation makes it easier for the other person to jab more) - Don't move head outside of leg range, will make you off balance. - Change patterns moving laterally with footwork (your your both moving clockwise, go counter clockwise etc) - Try pivoting in your spars, step to their side with your lead leg, pivot then throw or same thing but step back, it can be used offensively and defensively.
