Why buy expensive cologne?
Please educate me. For years (like decades almost) I wore one cologne and one cologne only until they stopped making it (I didn’t know and couldn’t stock up before it was gone and it haunts me to this day). Since I can no longer wear it and have gone through the last of it minus a small bottle I only use on VERY special occasions. I’ve been trying and buying new scents. The old scent I wore was middle of the road in price and I can go on forever about how much I loved it, but I’ve found many new scents now that cover the spectrum in terms of price and I can’t seem to tell one from another in the price justification. My question now is this, I’ve tried Dior and other expensive colognes and I don’t find them to last longer or require less than other cheap fragrances that cost 1/5 to 1/3 of the price. So if the scent is attractive and it smells good on your skin and lasts etc. what’s the benefit of buying high end scents? I understand it with shoes, clothes for nicer construction, fit, and fabrics, and even watches (to a certain extent) but not with scents. Can anyone educate me as to what I don’t know or maybe I’m missing to spend more on different more pricey or luxury brands of colognes? Is there a reason or should I just save my money and buy cheaper options if it’s still “good” I’m interested to hear your thoughts. This may be an area I’m uneducated.

@James Armijo I wore a men’s cologne from Victoria’s Secret. They still make it but they changed the scent 5 years ago or so. A 100ml bottle today is $80 but could usually be grabbed on sales. What I’m wearing now as a daily I found by liking the scent and later discovered it was only $23 per 100ml so I stocked up!

@Steven Hotchkiss it was not me so that’s VERY exciting to hear. I plan to look and order if they have it either tonight or tomorrow!
New wing tips from TLB Mallorca
I liked the double monks that I got from TLB so much that I bought a pair of wingtips too. 207 artistas, they’re beautiful! If you’ve considered a pair, jump!

What are the best shoes for chinos?
I’m looking for a pair of brown, laced shoes to pair with chinos (typically khaki, olive green, and dark blue). What are your recommendations? I’ve tried Thursdays Executive but found the toe too squared, and the chairman, but found them too dressy. I’d like to stay around $300, but could go up in price for the right pair. Some other wishes: laced (no loafers), medium to dark brown, leather sole and welt construction.

I think it depends on how casual you want to be. Some will say nice sneakers. I personally have been looking at a leather pair to wear (I hate white). However, my favorite is boots. I wear boots with chinos to work every day. There are other lace up dress shoes you can chose sure, just my thoughts. Some say oxfords are too formal for chinos, I disagree is they’re wing tip or light brown etc. or if you have a jacket on it can be okay. Maybe look at Bridlin Meermin and the like to stay under $300 if you want welted.

Do you wear driving loafer “out”? I don’t don’t any because they’ve always seemed like an indoor shoe/slipper to me more than an actual loafer due to the bottom.
