Exploring Power
Following on from last weeks Skill builder about Davos and contrasting worldviews here's a taster from a rich discussion. We examined the tension between: - “Power with” — shared, relational, and regenerative - “Power over” — power as control, leverage, or threat We reflected on Power Dynamics with a core question: When do I default to control rather than collaboration—and what fears or emotional drivers sit underneath that choice? The discussion surfaced how power shows up across different contexts: - Personal relationships and family systems - Academic and professional environments - Political leadership and global power dynamics Participants shared candid reflections related to: - Patience and perspective-taking in moments of conflict - White male privilege and power dynamics in family and academic settings - Justice and fairness as triggers for “power over” responses - Being a young CEO navigating responsibility, authority, and restraint Practicing “Power With” This practice reinforced a core insight: Shifting how we use power begins with a practice of self awareness, self-regulation, and relational presence—not authority. We host Skill builder sessions weekly that explore our attitudes, values and behaviors in relation to our leadership. Check the calendar for the time.
