A Future Ready Index - to bounce forward, beyond "resilience"
Thinking about our conversation last week after the 3rd session on Decolonization and the follow up idea regarding the possibility of reviewing the 2012 book "Why Nations Fall" with the community my reflection has shifted since our Hangout yesterday thanks to @Chris Burton @Etrit Shkreli and @Erhovwo Josiah from looking at the past to focusing on the future. This working paper “A Framework for a Comprehensive National Future Readiness Index” takes a future oriented perspective. The paper has proposed an elaborate new framework for assessing a country’s preparedness to navigate a future defined by uncertainty, complexity, and accelerating change. At its core, the Index of Future Readiness (IFR) offers a multidimensional measure of a nation’s foundational strength. That is, its capacity not only to recover from shocks but also to adapt proactively and transform in response to long-term disruptions. The IFR introduces a normative shift in how we conceptualize national success. In a world where shocks are no longer rare but routine, and where change is not linear but exponential, success can no longer be measured solely by short-term growth or static indicators of performance. The new imperative is strategic agility: the ability to anticipate, absorb, and adapt in ways that preserve prosperity and social cohesion amid disruption. In this light, the IFR is not merely a measurement tool, but a strategic compass. - It invites policymakers to reconsider the goals of national development, - encourages societies to invest in flexibility and learning, and - offers a shared vocabulary through which nations can assess progress not only by where they stand today, but by how prepared they are to meet tomorrow. Future readiness, as articulated in the paper, is not just a condition to be achieved, it is a mindset and a strategy for an age in which disruption is the norm, and thriving requires the courage and the leadership to adapt.

@Chris Burton Thankyou for weighing in here. Future ready sounds like WE in all our humanity will need supportive, caring communities.
Connecting the dots - Regeneration and Inner Development
Having worked in wetlands and water resource conservation for 6 years my radar has always been tuned to sustainability and even more so to regeneration. While sustainability focuses on maintaining balance and preventing harm, regeneration goes further—restoring, renewing, and enhancing ecosystems, communities, and systems to thrive beyond their original state. Which is why this interactive Regenerative Paradigm Map created by Dr Vanessa Taveras-Dalmau on 14 Sep 2025 retained all my attention. The Regenerative Paradigm Map (see the link below) has 7 core principles, 33 themes, and 253 specific elements detailing regeneration’s ‘what, why, and how’. The seven themes are: 1. Start with inner transformation (this occupies 13 of the 33 themes and is by far the most important) 2. Adopt pluralistic, post-capitalistic economic models (5 themes) 3. Practice participatory and ethical governance for regeneration (2 themes) 4. Put community first (2 themes) 5. Work with place as living (2 themes) 6. Use systems approaches (2 themes) 7. Learn from existing regenerative practices or complementary approaches (7 themes) Without wanting to simplify the breath of this research I am truly inspired by the inner development work that we have cut out for us! The 13 themes of Inner transformation include: Elevate your consciousness, integrate diverse knowledge, embrace a new mindset, shift to an ecological worldview, embrace a different discourse, honor negative emotions, channel positive emotions, embrace new leadership, develop new values, acknowledge your inner compass, develop multi literacy, develop soft skills, nourish people and place connectedness. Each one is explained in greater detail in the interactive map and our job is to bring this alive in our work to shift the discourse. It's a lot to digest for sure, but nothing this complex is going to be easy. We in this community are the one's who are helping to create shifts and bring about change.

@Sumeet Sandhu Thanks so much for the feedback on the map ☺️ One of the MANY things I love is the What/Why/How explanation you get with EACH of the 253 specific elements. Let us know how we can help you with any of the learning or facilitation design. In the hangout today we came up with a plan related to the 6 part series on Hope that @Sarah Santacroce shared. FYI Our hangouts are not recorded, and the timing changes weekly so that we can meet up with our amazing members who are in different time zones - we rotate weekly either 8.30, 12.30 and we're adding 18.00 beginning October. All details are in the Calendar. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

Hope - Community conversation on Nov 4th
Yesterday one of my Spanish connections told me about Hope - The Series https://hopetheseries.vhx.tv/, by Javier Pena Has any one here seen it? To me it sounds like it's more inclusive (17 countries covered) and focuses more on hope and positive stories. Specifically the last episode that says: This chapter highlights the critical role of indigenous communities and the urgent need to eradicate gender inequality to regenerate the planet and address the climate crisis. Would love to hear if anyone has seen it and what they thought

A Human-first Resilience Framework for the creative industry within the EU
As a founder of this community I’m involved in an EU research project exploring resilience as a lived, daily, and processual practice, which asks how creativity might ground us, connect us, and equip us to imagine — and act on — more humane, inclusive, and future-ready systems. Key areas of exploration: -Learning from those who dare to stand outside the system -Creative thinking for ethical, inclusive systems in the AI age -Resilience as lived, human practice -Creativity, storytelling, and adaptive capacity -Economic and collaborative models for humane, preventive resilience If you’re interested AND have time to get involved.. Raise your hand 🙋🏻 in the comments (this week) and I’ll tell you more.
