Spot Training
Howdy y’all! Join Ollie and me in learning “spot”! This is our second time training this skill, so any feedback would be amazing! *apologies for the loud background and no socks 😅😅

@Laura Rauscher Hey Laura! I’m currently working with a new puppy, Cole, who is also learning spot. He’s successful at getting two paws on the spot, but hasn’t built a duration yet. However, Tammy @Tammy Carlson is currently raising Ollie, and can answer this question!
Sit, Stand, Down…but with an energetic pup
Howdy guys! Welcome Cole! He’s the newest member of the ASA Service Dog in Training group! Right now we’re just working on basic: sit, stand, and down.

@Amanda Taulborg I saw a video of someone who put their Meta’s on their service dog, and someone made a comment about how much the dog looks to the handler. Was soooo cute!!!

@Laura Rauscher welcome Laura and Daisy!
We’ve got some new punky potatoes in the house 🥔🐕‍🦺
You’ll be seeing a lot more of these two… This was their very first training session with me, and we started with Spot. And let me tell you—these two are little rockstars! Great food drives, smart little cookies, and catching on QUICK They’re already starting to understand the game, and you can see how much they love to work. Also… names are not officially locked in yet 👀 So obviously I need some help here… Drop your name suggestions ⬇️

Ollie Doing Spot!
Ollie and I worked on spot tonight! I’m a little rusty with the littles because we haven’t had one in the house in a bit and it showed in this video but I got it together eventually! 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ Things I would change after watching the video back: 1. I forgot to block the spot with my foot 🤦🏼‍♀️ 2. I kept going in front of the camera so you couldn’t see Ollie lol 3. Could’ve probably lined him up better a few times 4. I wasn’t sure what command to use to get him off the spot so I just kinda encouraged him off of it? What should I be using? 5. I didn’t lure as much as I probably should have, and didn’t always have treats immediately in hand so I had to fish for them. My treat pouch fell off at work today and is MIA so plastic bag in the pocket was tonight’s solution 🤦🏼‍♀️ Things that went well: 1. Once he figured out the game, he was ALL about it - when he saw me putting the Zuke’s and food in a plastic bag he got SO excited and was trying to get to me from on the lanai with my dad 🤣 He really CAN do anything through Zuke’s hahaha 2. He listened to other obedience pretty well and chilled out when I had him sit to get him back to listening instead of “oh my gosh FOOD!!” mode 3. He had lots of good 2 front feet on the spot! Bonus win for Atlas: He stayed in a down & stay the whole time I was training Ollie and didn’t try to come interrupt or show off lol

Working on spot with Ollie here’s some notes: 1) Amanda still had us working on one paw on the spot, as she wanted us to build confidence with that before luring for the second paw (however I have gotten him to where he will do it the majority of the times 2) I never trained spot with the leash on him. We were in my office which is a smaller room, and he stayed around the spot the entire time. 3) I didn’t know which way I was supposed to have the spot, so we had it with the spikes up. I wonder if it helped him feel that he was on the spot better? 4) since we weren’t working on leash when I needed him to get off the spot I was just calling him to a “come” and then we would redirect towards the spot 5) when I was training spot we were able to get to a point that I didn’t need to lure at all 6) he does significantly better with spot if we can walk onto the spot. Otherwise as you’ve experienced he’ll just sit and put his paw out onto the spot. Hope this helps!
Sandy Crushing Shopping
Sandy went shopping with me! She practiced rear end awareness, backup with the shopping cart, and ignored the people and crazy noises around her. And also new level unlocked….. Sandy ignored a duck (she LOVES birds), a squirrel, andddd a paper towel (if you know Sandy, she loves a good paper towel)!!!!!!! I am very proud of her tonight!
