Bored or anxious?
We tend to confuse boredom with something that, in reality, is much heavier and deeper: anxiety. In today's world, we get constantly bombarded with information such as notifications, distractions, and pressure from society, inevitably pressuring us to become productive while being entertained. Yet those times when we're less busy or in silence, we may feel uncomfortable and restless. This isn't always boredom; it's anxiety manifesting in a way that prevents us from being present at the moment. There's a high rise of anxiety in a modern society. The excess of everything: overstimulation, perfectionism and toxic productivity culture and social comparison has some sense of restlessness with every age group. Since these terms aren't so new to us and this community, I suppose its safe to assume that we know just how much they can affect an individual too but I would like to emphasize on "social comparison" Social Comparison- Social media platforms add fuel to this fire. We scroll through flawlessly curated images of other people's 'seemingly' perfect lives and feel a sense of inadequacy, which amplifies feelings of restlessness. Instead of embracing the moments of stillness, we look for distractions or validation, which only intensifies the anxiety. Along with the causes come the affects and those include- 1. The inability to handle moments of quiet and unstructured time without feeling anxious. 2. Inability to relax or resent because our minds are constantly in a state of alertness, looking for the next thing to do or simply worry about. 3. Having a difficult time processing emotions effectively. When we distract ourselves from feelings of discomfort (whether it be loneliness or boredom) rather than facing or addressing them, we fail to develop healthy coping mechanisms and hinder with our ability to set boundaries with technology or even the amount of time we work which makes a perfect recipe for disaster like burnout, mood swings or even depression. 4. Apathy for the smallest of the things, internal peace and FOMO are all related to this phenomenon. Anxiety about the future or the mistakes we inevitably made robs us of the ability to fully engage with what's happening around us, at present.

A bit late! but the one that I absolutely love to remember when I feel overburdened- "Nothing's personal. That's just life" Though a bit harsh, it still helps lol.

@Tshego Mosiane Oh yes! Had a debate on the topic- 'Traditions and culture are an obstacle to progress' and I picked against and this quote was my opening line. Totally agree with your views on this one. Where we stand today as a nation is possible all because of the historical knowledge left behind by our ancestors which we choose to label as "outdated and antiquated" beliefs (not true). Yes, I believe as an individual or as a nation, we're meant to keep progressing and discovering new things but the backbone of anything that exists today will always be its history.
Productivity β‰  Intentionality
Aren't we all tired with all the extensive steps we're supposed to follow in order to be productive? Because yes, I certainly am. Infact, it made me more miserable. Well, not long ago I came across this concept of "be intentional, not productive" and after trying to etch this idea into my routine, I must say that though it is just a shift in perception it still made a drastic difference for me. I think for all of us the pressure to be productive can overshadow what truly matters. We fill out days with tasks, to-do lists, and endless activities, but how often do we pause to consider whether these actions align with our visions and goals? The difference between intentionality and productivity- β€’Productivity focuses on output- how much we can accomplish in a given time. While yes I agree this is practical, but it can lead us to prioritize quantity over quality. β€’Meanwhile, intentionality emphasizes on purpose. It's about making concious choices that lead us towards our long-term vision. Why Intentionality Matters? β€’ Clarity of Purpose: Being intentional helps you clarify what truly matters to you. When you focus on your goals, your actions become more meaningful and thus, you actually have a propelling system to keep going. β€’ Lesser Burnouts: Burnouts are the WORST. The pain of falling back into the cycle of procrastination after actually following a solid routine is what burnout does and mentally, the impact is worse. So whether it be me, a student, or a working adult, I believe that stress and burnouts are an inevitable obstacle and are often what lead to a drained mental health. And therefore, when you engage in activities that resonate with your purpose, you find greater satisfaction. How to Cultivate Intentionality? Though I've started practicing this a few weeks ago, I came up with some ways I think might help. β€’Reflection: Okay...clichΓ©d but very helpful. We humans are spontaneous and so to have the ability to grip yourself and hold back and reflect on whether what you're doing is actually something which aligns with your long term goals or not is something which, if cultivated somehow, changes the game.

@Adi Chauhan Hey Adi, thank you for explaining that! I really liked how you conveyed that, even if we run towards productivity, what we are actually chasing is our higher self. It's a great check as to whether or not our desires coincide with our values and long-term growth. I appreciate the opinion.

@Hamrah Basheer Hey Hamrah! I appreciate your comment. I've struggled with the same issue as you and I may still be struggling since it's so stubbornly etched into my habits that I involuntarily exhaust and burn myself out in order to feel productive. Lately, I have been forcing myself to slow down by reminding myself that "Your actions must always align with your goals" because that's also what the rule of manifestation says!. Lastly, I hope that you too find your own pace and I'm so glad you liked the message!

@Christian Ortiz No worries! All the best for the next oneπŸ™‚πŸ’™
Are you sure?
Growing up in a household which encouraged one to focus on their strengths and not weaknesses, I fell victim to the mindset that my strengths are what make me and my weak points should be negligible to me. Now, as I sat down to reflect on my progress as an individual, I realises that how many times I had to indirectly confront myself in order to step ahead. Though it was an indirect self confrontation, I realised that if only I had accepted my "flaws", it wouldn't have been so difficult to proceed. To brief it down, don't be ashamed of how many bad habits you have, how many times you messed up, how much you've been taunted about something, how many things are just not right in your life or how many things you're insecure about. Trust me, if it's something you can fix then you can overcome it just by acknowledging it first. You don't have to tell anyone anything, just proceed silently. There's nothing bad about being "imperfect" which in my opinion is totally human. Write it down, give yourself time to accept it, look for ways to overcome it, build patience and you'll do it. Don't measure the time, it's of no use. Track your progress, that's all you should be aware of. In the end, ask yourself.."Am I really sure that this is who I truly am?" It was a thought that emerged out from reviewing a book I had read long back. Hope it was some help to someone. Thanks you! Have a great day/nightπŸ’™βœ¨

@Alma Winther ohh yes! I read a bit of Atomic Habits and majority of the time, whenever I come across any type of "system" to make things easier, it has to be from Atomic Habits. As for the other book, I'll definitely check it. Thanks a lot for the recommendations! <333

@Anthony García hey! I appreciate your kind words and practical comment, Anthony. You're a 100% right about embracing our flaws rather than neglecting them because again, you cannot overlook the obvious no matter how hard you try. I'm glad you loved the post. All the best!!🌟🌟
