Hi, I guess I better start here with the introduction. I’m Annmarie, and my husband Chris will be joining in with me. I am originally from Massachusetts, and currently live in northeast Connecticut. My husband is originally from Minnesota. We raised our childre in Rhode Island, for the most part, and then in Connecticut when we moved here about 9 years ago. We raised six children. I Annmarie homeschooled them for many of those years, and now our youngest two of those six are in college, so we are intermittent empty-nesters. My husband Chris works in mechanical engineering. We now have six grandchildren, whom we adore, and we have one on the way! I Annmarie have struggled with health issues for most of my adult life. By the grace of God, he was able to help me to find some things that would help me to live life and do the things I needed to do, raise my children, but there’s so much more health I would like to reclaim. My top health issue has been gastrointestinal issues that I’ve struggled with for the past 15 years, and then some health issues/weight gain that has happened since entering into menopause. As far as having tried things, it probably would be better if I tell you what I didn’t try, lol. But, all of the things that I have tried have helped to some degree. I think the biggest thing that has helped me was the Christian brain rewiring/neuroplasticity. Working on Renewing my mind, especially after having had chronic illness is important to for breaking some of the habits that you develop, and patterns and responses to the discomfort the did-ease causes. I guess my biggest health goal would be to be consistent with foundational health habits that will ultimately give me that good foundation that I can build on going into my older years. I lost both of my parents this year, and my youngest two children are out of the house for most of the year. It’s a strange season, but a new season that I would love to commit to regaining some health during, in order to thrive, not just survive, and not have to enter into my later years with any more health struggles, but hopefully enter them with renewed health, and good habits to help sustain that. I’m looking forward to learning and growing along with Dor and the others in the group.
🧠 SELF-CONTROL: THE LOST DISCIPLINE 🧠
Let’s talk about something we rarely confront anymore — self-control. In today’s world, we live in a state of constant indulgence. Food is everywhere. And we’re conditioned to believe that feeling even slightly hungry is some kind of emergency. Ever hear someone say they’re “hangry”? That’s not normal — that’s a lack of self-control. It’s a modern symptom of a deeper spiritual and physical disconnection. But here’s the truth: Our ancestors didn’t eat 3 meals a day, let alone 4 or 5. They didn’t snack every two hours. Sometimes they ate once a day. Sometimes they didn’t eat at all. And guess what? They survived. Thrived, even. Today, we eat out of habit, not hunger. Out of emotion, not need. And the result? We’ve become slaves to our cravings, calling it “normal.” 📖 Galatians 5:22-23 says:“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…” Self-control is not optional. It’s a mark of spiritual maturity. So here’s a challenge: ✅ Pay attention to how you act when you're hungry. ✅ Reflect on how often you think you need to eat. ✅ Ask yourself: “Is this physical hunger, or just a habit or craving?” And if you find yourself unable to stop eating something you know is harmful to your body, your energy, or your mind — pause. Is that normal? Or is that bondage? Real freedom isn’t doing whatever you want whenever you want. Real freedom is choosing not to — and being at peace with it. Let’s grow in self-control. In mind, body, and spirit.Let’s stop letting food (or anything else) control us. What are your thoughts on this? Have you noticed this in your own life? 👇 Share below — let’s grow together.

Training in here, although I have not been part of the newer lessons, but I guess I’m kind of split on the hole eating when you’re hungry, compared to eating on a regularly scheduled basis. Having entered into menopause a few years back while also caring for my elderly and sickly parents, I put a lot of of their needs ahead of mine and ended up going a long time before eating/nourishing my body. I don’t think this was the best for me at that time, as I leave, my hormones needed more calories/nourishment than it was getting. I did however, have some success with some focused intermittent fasting and longer fasting on the weekends 36 to 42 hours and lost some weight from that as well as gained some positive results. But, I did do a program where it had me doing a lot more self-care with regard to food, taking the time to actually put together a well balanced meal and nourish my body and the more I did that the more ministering it felt to my spirit and to my body to take the time to make a well balanced meal and before long, I did start to develop a natural hunger again, which had disappeared probably because I was stressing my body out and was able to go along a time without getting that Hangry feeling. Anyway, I’m not sure what the proper balance is as I have heard that there are benefits to both fasting, and nourishing the body with the amount of calories/protein/fats/fiber that it needs in order for proper hormone production.
Healthy Fats
The Healthy Fats that I incorporate into my diet are fresh coconut, avacado and olives. What are other healthy fats that you are consuming?

@Jacob Perez Id have to say that I think this has been the best health habit that I’ve incorporated through the years. Unfortunately I got away from doing it faithfully during my time of caring 24/7 for my parents and I suffered the effects of that inconsistency. I’m trying to incorporate it into my daily routine again.

@Jacob Perez yes, thank you. I have started doing it intermittently. I actually bought an oil pulling mouth rinse so it is making a little bit easier than me having to go scoop out the coconut oil and add the essential oils like I used to. So at least I’m doing that for now. @Dor Davidov
