What have you gotten good at in the last few months?
... and by "good" I don't mean "the best" or even "great." For example, over the past few months I've gotten good at networking. It's not like I'm some monster networker with incredible charm and millions of contacts. But I reach out to people, I get on calls, I join mixers, and I follow up. Results have followed. I've also gotten good at creating offer stacks. Meaning, creating logical and yet attractive offers, either by breaking things up or by adding in stuff in or both. Again, I'm not like I'm Travis Sago or Alex Hormozi. But compared to were I was, and compared to people I know, I've gotten good. What have you gotten good at? Take a moment. Write down an idea, or better yet 10. The reason is simple: What you're good at is stuff that has value, stuff that you can teach or do for others, stuff that people will pay for. (Curious fact for long-term Bejako readers: asking myself this exact question is how I ended up creating my Most Valuable Email program.) So take a moment now and figure out what you've gotten good at. And if you like, share your list below.

Getting better at using Customer.io, and it still surprises me sometimes. I’ll build something and think, wait, I didn’t know I could do that. especially when it comes to personalisation and automating email campaigns. I’d say I’m “good” at it, mostly because I’ve had to figure things out on my own. Their documentation goes deep and covers a lot, but it doesn’t really show how to use those features in creative ways or in specific use case. Unlike tools like Klaviyo or Kit, where you can find plenty of tutorials (or maybe because they have an affiliate programme)
Do you know of or want any sexy list growth tools?
By "tools," I am being pretty open-minded: - Could be software tools - Could be templates - Could be resources like lists of newsletters that accept ads - Could simply be an email that opens up list swap opportunities - Could be something else, as long as it has the feel of being something concrete and tangible, and not just "how to" Reason I'm asking is... I had the idea to put together a "List Growth Bundle." A bunch of tools to help you grow your email list... at a dramatic discount of what it would cost to buy the lot. Is this even something you might possibly want? Vote below, and let me know if this is a stupid idea or not. And if it is something you'd want, then tell me in the comments about a list growth tool you have kept your eagle eye on. Just to be 100% clear, here's the poll question to answer: Would you be interested in the "List Growth Bundle"?

I'm thinking something that shows you how to leverage native growth tools. For example beehiiv has Boost, referral programs, magic links. Kit has Creator Network, Substack has Recommendations I think. Maybe the bundle could show you how to best use each of them (beyond what the platforms tell you) and what is best for you for your goals
Follow up system?
Following up on the topic of following up... Do you have a system that works for you to follow up with people 1-1? I'm not talking about the content of the follow-up, but just something that gets you to follow up in the first place, when it's actually time to do so. I can imagine a few options, all of which I've tried without amazing results: 1. Just remember it's time to check in with people who dropped off 2. Have a spreadsheet of people I've reached out to, and revisit it daily to see who it's time to reach out to again 3. Use calendar reminders for each individual unfinished conversation that say, "Did person x respond?" For reference, there are currently about a dozen people I should follow up with in case they don't get back to me, based only on conversations that happened over the last week. Maybe, if I had a good system, I would realize there are actually even more promising conversations that I've let drop. Do you have a system that works for you? If you do, let me know, I'm all ears.

2, then put the dates in my task management tool. I got lazier so I just put a recurring daily to-do for checking the spreadsheet. I also preplan the dates I need to follow up. Then, I used conditional formula to highlight the cell in red if date = today. Makes it easier to see a glance for any follow ups.
Inspiration vs. Motivation?
Last night, I was reading a book about direct marketing and came across the following: "What I've learned is that if you want to get somebody to do something, motivation is extremely short-lived. It's a poor source of fuel for succeeding at anything. It burns out quickly. You can motivate someone to take action, but they'll inevitably lose that motivation because it's just a spike in energy. Inspiration, however, provides slow-burning fuel that lasts much, much longer." I've long known about the power of inspiring people to get them to take action. But in my mind, inspiration and motivation are pretty much the same. So maybe I wasn't inspiring all this time, but was motivating instead? Can you clear this up for me? What's inspiration to you? And what's motivation? And what are some examples or techniques of each that you've used or had used on you?

My definition for both seems to be the same, too. Motivation can be long-term fuel. Maybe I’m motivated today to exercise, and then every day after I want to keep this habit going, so motivation becomes slow-burning fuel. At first, I thought inspiration has something to do being aligned with an identity. But I realised I can also I do certain things because I'm motivated to be this ideal version of myself and it still works. Self-motivation? Inspiration can be short-term too. Maybe someone says it’s good to lock in more steps in each day. So I’m inspired to take a 5-minute walk now but then tomorrow I forget about it and now inspiration from yesterday becomes short-term fuel. (Unless I’m motivated to be inspired again??)
I have a pool now
A few people have expressed skepticism about the "use your email list to pay for a house" bit, which features in the mission statement of this group. I've been open from the beginning what this means: In most places in the U.S. and around the world, you can cover your monthly rent or mortgage payments with around $3k. $3k/month is very doable with an email list, in a quick period of time. Thing is, "make $3k a month" isn't really all that sexy of a promise. But "pay for a house" is. You wanna see how sexy? A couple weeks ago I moved to a new apartment. I have a large terrace, and on the terrace... I have a pool. (Photo below, Christmas-themed Bejako for scale. The owl is there to scare pigeons away. It doesn't work.) My pool is about the size of a refrigerator. No matter. It's the first place I've ever lived that has a pool. And it happens to be part of my own apartment, in the very center of Barcelona. My email list paid for this, and continues to pay for it month after month. You too can do the same, and the point of this group is to help you get there. By the way, I'm using my new pool as a jokey theme for the auction I'll be running starting tomorrow: POOL PARTY. You're invited to the pool party. The time: Tomorrow, Wednesday December 10, at 6pm CET/12 noon EST/9am PST Place: right here, inside Daily Email House. Bring your inflatable flamingo float.
