Improv on 1st 3 notes Brandon Lakes Gratitude Song
I have been listening to Victor Wooten's book The Lesson, and it has been so helpful for me. It is a book that is liberating my playing, and what he is teaching goes along with everything Vic is teaching or unteaching us. I decided to try to play a random song that youtube suggests. I figured out the key and only used the first 3 notes of the scale to improv on, so I could focus on things like movement, dynamics, etc I found out the key was in Bb before I recorded this. Using only those 3 notes was very helpful and worked. What I liked, is that I felt like I was more free than ever and what I didn't like was that I jumped octaves too much in one phrase. If you haven't read or listened to The Lesson, I would highly suggest it.

@Vic Wheeler I haven’t tried one, but how fun!! Yes the drumming in the water is cool!!
Jeremy Bosch solito
Listen to how he keeps track of the beat when he makes a long solo line and it's just the drums accompanying him. Also take note of the use of space & long notes after fast notes! Watch the guy in the white cap direct the band! Live latin jazz flute solo example.

@Vic Wheeler yes I have transcribed. This is so cool! Thanks for sharing it! I am trying to play along with it and it is a good way to get a visual on what he is playing.

Grandkids & Absolute Silliness
There isn’t much I won’t do for my grandkids. All they have to do is say grandma and they are wrapped around my little finger. I was babysitting them a couple of days ago and they were building a magnetic tile building and were using a slow mo video while they knocked it down. They thought it would be a good idea, to incorporate music into it. So they put on the organ’s percussion and said that I should play my flute while spinning around and knocking the tower down with my foot. Of course I said yes. Mordecai said wait until I say go, when he says go it sounds like a low growl, which I find quite funny. For some reason we couldn’t figure out how to make the whole video slo mo, so the end of the video is normal speed. I love how this group, not only gets us off the page, but encourages us to PLAY! I have been able to make some fun memories with my grandkids by playing with music:)
