What do you consider to be your official ‘Long Run’? (No right or wrong answers here, just curious!)

@Erin Phifer I can’t take credit for ‘Long Boi’, that was my friend Charlotte on Strava and now I’ve adopted the terminology as my own lol

@Emily Bailey I love that!
Midweek Check-In/Wednesday Wins!
How is everyone doing? I know the heat and the wildfire smoke have definitely thrown some curveballs into the summer training plans (along with some of us that are dealing with injuries or niggles that have popped up), so what can we help support and cheer you on with? What is a win you’ve had (or hope to have) this week? My win is that I can finally pick up my leg to get dressed in the morning without my hip flexor hurting. PT is working its magic!

@Emily Bailey I’m so glad to hear that you are on the mend! Yes wildfire smoke has reached Edmonton so I was on the treadmill yesterday, but my big win (as someone who suffers from climate anxiety) was shifting to the tread with the least amount of internal panic/drama I’ve ever managed 😅 (This is my 5th straight year of training through wildfires.)

@Emily Bailey I can empathize with that so much! Even before I had a watch I was guilty of trying to match my own times on Strava 🙈 I’m wishing you a strong recovery! ❤️‍🩹
Would you rather?
10k in September overlaps with training for a (second) marathon in November. Would you.. A) finish the 10k plan B) start marathon training July 26th

@Aimee Jones Oooh this is a good one. If I had to choose (and didn’t have a coach who could adjust programming to accommodate both), I’d prioritize the plan of the race that is more important to you. If 10k is more important, finish 10k plan and enter marathon plan at a point that makes sense. If marathon is more important, start the marathon plan, but maybe look at the 10k plan and see where you could swap a few workouts so you have some 10-k specific work going in. I currently have a 10k in the middle of marathon training (it falls during peak weeks, actually- not ideal). To handle it I’ll either fun-run the 10k (not race it full out), or switch a few runs around in my marathon plan so I’m not running the 10k back to back with a big marathon long run workout. I’m not a coach but would be curious to have our MFM community coaches chime in on this!

One more thought: even if you prioritize the 10k, you’ll want to make sure you’re still hitting the weekly mileage you’ll need to be prepped for the marathon. 10k plans tend to be higher intensity and lower volume, so you might need to look at the long runs and overall running and tweak that a bit!
Win Wednesday!
Hi friends! Let’s shout out some wins from this week :) Big or small! What’s your win this week? Mine is getting out of bed and on my run ON TIME this morning and getting to actually run in some cooler temps!! Just the reset I needed :)

@Emily Bailey @Erin Phifer Thanks pals! The reality of being an older athlete is that I’m more prone to minor niggles. The key is to NOT panic and take steps to differentiate between routine snarls and things that could be more problematic 😅
