💸 The "ADHD Tax" Series: My War Against Zombie Subscriptions
We talk a lot about "investing" in our businesses, but we rarely talk about the "ADHD Tax"—the literal cost of the administrative mazes designed to keep us stuck. I’m starting a series on this because I think we need to air out the receipts to remove the shame. Exhibit A: My War Against "Zombie Subscriptions" 🧟‍♂️ Thanks @Rex Loyer for the idea and inspired by @Rebecca Bautista from her courageous conversations about finance. I’ve spent the last few months fighting a war on three fronts just to stop paying for things I don't use. It wasn't because I was lazy; it was because the systems were broken. 1. The "Ghost" Company: I wrote to one company months ago to cancel. Their excuse? They were "so busy growing" they hadn't gotten around to processing my cancellation. (Yet they had plenty of time to process my payment). 2. The Login Loop: For two cloud services, I couldn't log in. Support said they couldn't help me unless I logged in. A perfect, maddening Catch-22. 3. The Premium Trap: Another group plan literally refused to let me delete the accounts. My Solution? The Nuclear Option. ☢️ I stopped trying to "follow the rules." I called my credit card company and blocked the automatic payments entirely. It felt messy. It felt like I "should" have been able to solve it the "polite" way. But honestly? Protecting my resources was more important than being polite to a broken system. See more about this practice and Click-To-Cancel Rule https://www.arnoldporter.com/en/perspectives/advisories/2026/02/ftc-and-state-ags-continue-to-scrutinize-subscription-practices This is a shame-free zone. The energy we spend beating ourselves up over these $20 or $50 charges is often more expensive than the money itself. 👇 Tell me one "Zombie Subscription" you’ve fought (or are fighting) recently.

Expert Interview #2 with G.S.: How to Make AI work for YOUR Brain
What if AI could work with your ADHD brain instead of against it? Meet @G. S., Gurvinder Singh: cybersecurity professional, father, and self-described "AI hacker." He's on a mission to make technology actually work for neurodivergent minds & is a member of Focus Founders! In this conversation, we cover: ✨ Why most technology is designed for neurotypical brains (and how to hack it for yours) 🎯 The "ADHD tax:" All the invisible ways neurodivergent people struggle with tech 🔧 How to use AI to expand your thinking instead of outsourcing it 💡 Practical strategies: chatting with YouTube videos, books, and even your own previous chats 🎳 The "bowling lane guardrails" approach to staying on track Listen in if you... • Believe technology should amplify humanity rather than extract from it • Struggle with productivity tools that create more friction than they solve • Feel left behind by AI tools that promise to help but don't work with your brain • Want practical ways to democratize AI access beyond the elite few • Care about restoring dignity and choice in how we use technology 🎯 Gurvinder's #1 Tip: Ask AI open questions about your goals, not specific steps. Tell it where you're tripping up and let it work as a thinking partner, not a task manager. This one was so fun! 2nd Interview for my own Skool, all about positioning founders as experts AI can't replace. Thanks so much @G. S. !!

@Katy Ward Right now, it ends with “Listen in if you…” (passive, educational). Consider adding ONE tactical line after the benefits: “This one was so fun! 2nd Interviewgg for my own Skool. Listen in if you feel any of the above. (Spoiler: You’re not broken. Your tools are just in the wrong lane.)

🔋 Does your tech FUEL you... or DRAIN you? (Must watch video with Katy Ward!) 🧠✨
Let’s be honest: Most technology assumes you are "ready to work" the second you open the screen. But for us? Staring at a blank prompt can feel like a heavy demand. 📉 I sat down with an Amazing Storyteller @Katy Ward to discuss a massive shift: How do we "hack" the ADHD AI to restore our dignity rather than just increasing our output? 🤯 We aren't just talking about productivity tips. We are talking about using AI to build gray matter instead of outsourcing it! 💪 🔥 In this conversation, we break down: - 🚫 The "ADHD Tax": How to stop technology from extracting your energy and start making it work for your brain chemistry. - 🤝 The Thinking Partner: Moving from using AI as a typewriter to using it as a "sparring partner" that stretches your creativity! - 🏨 Digital Hospitality: Why your tools should feel like "taking off your heavy bags" rather than filling out a tax form. 💡 The Power Quote: "Hacking AI means hacking my brain to make it work for me... to restore our dignity when using technology." — Gurvinder Singh If you’ve ever felt like your tools are demanding more than they give, this conversation is the permission slip you’ve been waiting for. 🎟️💚 👇 Watch the full chat here: https://youtu.be/6lz4vuunueE Curious: When you open ChatGPT, do you feel Relief 😌 or Pressure 😰? 1,000 Cups Served. Here are the Tasting Notes. ☕
@Bill Widmer @Rex Loyer — Happy 1,000. In the coffee business, we track "Tasting Notes"—the specific, distinct flavor profile of a roast. Numbers tell you how much you served, but tasting notes tell you how it felt to drink it. To celebrate this milestone, I went back through the community logs to analyze the "Flavor Profile" of the culture you two have built. I found that Focus Founders doesn't just taste like "productivity." • It has notes of Resilience: Like @Alison St. Romain finding the strength to "not break and run away when things get hard." • It has notes of Triumph: Like @Amber Kay crushing it as a single mom and finding "tears upon tears of gratitude." • It has notes of Momentum: Like @Jorick Sikkes tracking the countdown down to the final 16 members. Attached is a "Menu of Evidence" commemorating the first 1,000 members. Thank you for building the shop. The beans are excellent.

@Jill Binder Thanks, Jill! It’s been a journey of 'brewing' the right balance. ☕️ I think of my AI process like pulling the perfect espresso shot. Most people try to serve the whole bag of beans at once—I call that Level 1: I started out the way and chuckled at the hat I subjected the community to heavy cognitive loads or punch-in-the-face visuals. @Bill Widmer and @Rex Loyer were great help woth their feedback on my journey to simplicity. The Kitchen Sink. It’s high-pressure, bitter, and way too much for an ADHD brain to swallow. It’s just visual noise. I’ve learned to 'grind' that chaos down through heavy iterations in Gemini and NotebookLM until I reach Level 3: The ADHD Anchor. It’s about removing the 'cognitive grounds' until you’re left with just the pure essence: One bold idea, massive white space, and zero shame. If it takes more than 2 seconds to 'sip' the meaning, I haven't simplified enough yet. Think of it as Decision Barista style: I do the heavy tamping so the community just gets the energy boost! ⚡️" 📌 The Sticky Note "Simple is the strongest flavor: One bold shot is better than a bucket of beans."

@Jill Binder Creating AI images is like learning a new skill; it takes time with the tools and a fresh way of thinking about how to make images, which isn’t always easy when you’re used to using image editing software. My wife and kids spent most of the day working on a flyer with ChatGPT and got almost there, but they hit a snag with a typo that wouldn’t go away. My wife asked can we just have it change that one word like we would in Canva or an image editing app and I suggested the existing thinking 🤔 does not work for these tools. It would take the amount of effort to tweak and recreate an integration as would creating a new image in some cases. I ended up fixing it by being very specific and using Gemini instead but could have put more effort if needs to get ChatGPT working but it worked and they did not want to complicate it and spend hours more to get it right. Hope this helps!
