Drill challenge
This week, to help you relax your drill, dedicate one session to your footwork when you warm up on easy climbs. The drill is simple. All you have to do, is move as slowly as you possibly can, and look down at your foot for every placement 👀🦶🏽 If it sounds too simple, trust me, many climbers overlook that part. But closely paying attention to your foot as you put it on the hold with help you develop control and precision. This is crucial on harder climbs! Note: don't forget to also see what your hands are doing 😂 Leave a comment to tell me when you completed it and how it felt! 💬
Tried a good few routes in my warm up today slowly looking at my foot placement. The exercise felt a bit like the ‘silent feet drills’ but more useful in letting me to notice how often I shifted my feet around as I readjusted my body weight. Will definitely add it as a warm up moving forward.
Which do you struggle with most right now?

For me, it’s definitely the mental game of climbing. I can psych myself out pretty easily when leading routes which means I’m not doing any of the fun ones unless I’m on top 😩. I also find it difficult in group situations to prioritise my climbing, and it usually ends up I climb a lot less (probably because I’ve psyched myself out in peer settings)

@Steph Pedro fear of falling is definitely an issue. Had a nasty bruise on my ‘learn to lead’ class last year. With group scenarios: I think I lack confidence in my own ability, and want to give others opportunities to climb. I feel like I need to rush through my climbing and not give myself enough time to focus and get into the flow of movement and attempt harder routes.

Climbing, climbing, eating. Occasionally lawyering. Maybe gardening.
