A little research
Doing a little bit of thinking and research. Id really appreciate it if everyone drops a comment with your draw length, the actual weight you shoot and your preferred point weight. If you shoot wood arrows, what spine range do you use?

My draw length is 28”. My go-to longbow is a 7 Lakes string follow at 48#. I shoot 45-50# Surewood shafts that are 29 1/2” with three 5” banana feathers and a 160 gr tip. When I shot carbons, they were Gold Tip Traditional 500s at 30 3/4”, three 5” banana feathers and 200 gr tips They all shoot right where I put ‘em! Unfortunately, that’s not always where they were supposed to go!!
What was the single biggest obstacle you overcame shooting a traditional bow?
Confidence? Belief in the bow as a hunting tool? How to shoot it even? Arrow tuning? Comment below! ⬇️ 🏹

Tuning wood arrows after shooting carbons for decades and ALWAYS needing to be mindful of my release
Off season reading
So what archery books are you reading or what do you recommend? I’m in the middle of Bows on the little delta and so far I highly recommend it.

“The American Longbow” and “The Long Fix”. Both by Stephen Graf.

Others are “Son of the Longbow” by Marv Clyncke and “…And the horse you rode in on!!” by Gene and Barry Wensel. Good reading!
Couple questions
1. Looking for exercises to keep/get the bow muscles strong and flexible. Have been losing weight to be healthier and looking for home dumbbell workout to tone up. Appreciate any suggestions 2. My wife has had 3 failed shoulder surgeries. She is getting by with physical therapy once a week to keep her shoulder mobile. She expressed interest in shooting a recurve. Looking for training for her shoulder issue that may help with range of motion if that is even possible? Also, recurve recommendation for her. She is 5’ 1”. Thank you

If looking for suggestions, Chapter 17, “Strong like a Bull” of G. Fred Asbell’s book “Advanced Instinctive Shooting for Bowhunters” has six exercises listed using rubber exercise bands. They work…if you do them! I had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulder ten and eleven years ago. I still do some of the therapy exercises and have been doing these six recommended by Mr. Asbell. I have no trouble pulling my 48# ASL.

I shot a fiberglass recurve as an early teen until my fingers bled! I shot again after college with an early compound. It had round wheels, brass sight pins and a wood riser, a Browning Super Brown Bear, I think. Hunted with it a few years. Passed up too many shots because I could not see my sight pins through the peep. Seems like something always needed adjusting. Very frustrating!! Then in ‘89, I saw the premier issue of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. Bought it, read it and said to self, “This is the way to go!” I shot recurves for years and been shooting ASL/longbows for twenty plus years. No desire to shoot anything else.

My name is Lee Camp. I’m retired, live in NE Iowa and have bowhunted with traditional bows since early 90’s. Mostly shoot wood arrows out of ASL’s.
