@Bethany Bryan Hi brave girl, trying again. So I guess by "skates" you mean quads. Good. The only thing in-line and quads have in common are wheels, and even those are different, so you're getting a fresh start on a design that has promise for you. Sorry the other ones got you injured. If you're interested in flying down a hill at breakneck speed, then in-lines are a better that... otherwise more people start and stay on quads. Anyway, there's just two things that are good to focus on starting out, and they are: how not to fall and how TO fall, hehe. As KJ says, "Oh no, get low". When you start to lose balance, sink, is what everyone says, and keep your arms in front. And pretty much always keep your knees over your toes and your back straight. As you may have seen, there are tutorials here awa on youtube, and all the members here are friendly and helpful. Welcome to the society!

@Jessica Endrick Hi Jessica, I'm just now seeing your post. Welcome. There are lots of resources to help you go about this, Sk8shot being one. Lots of friendly, helpful people here. Youtube has content providers like Skatie, Estra Gen, Dirty Debbie School of skating, etc. And there are also websites like rollerskatenation.com. Just try different search terms and you'll see lots of it.
Confused!
Hi Sk8shot fam! I wrote another rather long post about buying my first pair of skates! I titled it "First Pair," if I remember correctly! Anyway, when I tried to post a picture of one of the skates that I bought all of a sudden the entire post disappeared, and I couldn't find it! At first I figured that this site administration team had to review the picture because I know some sites do that, but now I'm not so sure! Has anyone else had this issue? If so, please let me know! Thank you all! The skates by the way were all pair that cost about $69 called Roller Derby that I purchased from Academy Sports in Tupelo, Mississippi! A guy named Kenny at Skate Zone in Tupelo, Mississippi (shout out to Kenny at Skate Zone in Tupelo, Mississippi) said he could order anything that I wanted, and have it shipped in about 2 days, but the only thing he had in stock in my size were some skates called Vanilla Jr's, which cost about $268, and while I had the money I couldn't spare it at the time, and since I didn't want to wait until some got shipped I bought the Roller Derbys from Academy Sports! I think I kind of rushed the whole process because I bought the skates, a helmet, and a set that came with knee pads, elbow pads, wrist pads! (heard of wrist bands, but not wrist pads!), and it seems that even though I bought the biggest they had things are a tad to small (helmet and pads)! The skates are fine in size, but the are a tad bit higher than low top sneakers, but lower than high top sneakers! I think you call that size mid-size, or mid-quarter! The problem is that the wheels seem to be to easy to roll! It's like I have to really use my leg muscles to keep them from rolling away from under me! They are heavy, but I just attributed that to my not having skates on in a while! In the past I just used rentals, so this is the first pair of skates that I have owned! I don't remember rentals having so much roll ease to them! The last time I skated was in 2007, but before that it had been a gap of several years, and when I got on skates in 2007, I was so wobbly legged because I don't think the skates had such ease of roll! I guess I'm explaining this right! Anyway, I welcome all advice concerning the matter! I have been out of prison for about 1 year and 6 days! Even though cellphones are contraband there are a lot of them in a lot of jails and prisons around the country! I usually had one while locked up, and I use to enjoy watching jam/dance skating videos on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc! I said while I was still in prison that I wanted to add dance/jam skating to my basic skating ability when I got out, so a few nights ago I decided to go ahead and purchase a pair because I was like I might as get started! Has anyone heard of Roller Derby skates? At $69 I guess they are cheap, and I do plan on buying other skates! Has anyone heard of the skates called Vanilla Jr's that the guy at the skating rink said he had for sell? Are they good skates? Are they worth $268 like he was selling them for? Let me know! Much love! Blessings!

@Marisa Sa Sorry maybe I don't understand what it means, but I read that Sure-Grip sells 45° trucks/plates called DA45 (for roller derby? I dunno). https://rollerskatenation.com/sure-grip-DA45-complete-trucks/

@Marisa Sa Lol, anyone who admits they had a "brain fart", I forgive instantly (and want to give them a bear hug). I have them all the time, which is why I'm constantly editing what I say. Now I'm starting to say "sorry" and "I dunno" too, just in case.
New to skating
Hey everyone, I’m new to skating and I want to purchase some personal skates. I just want to ask for some suggestions on what should I purchase? And is there a separate pair I’d need for outdoors versus indoor skating?

@Aleeta Powe I hope to buy a decent pair when I have the money, so it's good to read a review like yours, thanks!

@Aleeta Powe each time I read this I laugh - one thing that makes ya try something new is HAVING to do it, hehe. One trick I used to do 50 years ago was jumping and doing a 360°. I tried it (last year) on grass but my knee won't let me yet. (oh, have you seen my PSA?)

@Dr. Osborne (haha) thanks, but there are actual teachers who know what they're doing. Oh wait, you must be referring to the PSA. Inspiring kids to take drugs I'll take the credit for (jk), but everything else I was coerced into doing by Miss Paula, an actual teacher.
Hello

Welcome, Angie dog-mom, from AJ cat-dad. (When I meet someone in person I say my name is AJ, and they say "Angie? Adrian?". I should enunciate.) You made a good choice joining Sk8shot. I've been here over a year and everyone I've met has been friendly and helpful.
