Local - Alcohol license with county - Alcohol license with city - Special events: must obtain special permits from jurisdiction event takes place within (city if within city limits, county if outside city limits) State - Retail license - Wholesale license - Optional food: Food Permit for each location  - State dependent: Beer tax bond AND Wine tax bond for beer over 5% - State tax licensing= Seller’s permit, Beer tax permit, Wine tax permit (Idaho), Withholding tax permit - Register Federal - Register as a Federal FDA food processing facility. Must appoint ServSafe Manager to obtain food handlers permit - Obtain EIN - Register with the Department of the Treasury Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB)  Will receive a Brewer’s Notice Hiring Employees - Obtain Worker’s Comp Insurance Policy  - Report new hires to your state

It’s such a joke. At the other breweries I worked at we had to register under the department of agriculture who gave us an inspection every year and they treated us like a cheese factory so we all had to wear hairnets, but here we’re “deferred to the city” and the city never even checks lol. Just goes to show that there is no standard. Everyone is making it up as they go along.

@Grant Lee I'm not sure how punk rock you're willing to go, but I know there are breweries in California who are running as private membership associations and just skirting aroung it all.
Extreme Weather Brew Day
Check out my brew day in this “Extreme” February weather! As someone who basically brews in the conditions because I open the bay door at least for the boiling step, you won’t see me complaining. How’s the weather where you’re at?

Looks fun! We're just coming out of a cold snap here in Wisconsin.
Stickers, logos, and beer labels
Some examples of the stickers, labels, and beer labels my wife and I have come up with for our brewery over the last couple years. For context, we are in a small logging town in the Idaho Panhandle and the local culture revolves around the many lakes and rivers, fishing, hunting, and the logging industry. The fishing related ones have been the most popular. Show us some of your creative marketing material or Tell us what are some of your ideas!

I love it! We just found a local graphic designer who uses AI to help us with labels…I’ve been learning how difficult and important the label art is in this industry lol

@Grant Lee She's your secret weapon! I'm having my wife learn how to edit videos for me haha.
Drinks for Thought "The risk to a 25 year old liver is dwarfed by the risk of isolationism"
Some of my best friends I still have in my life as a (almost) 40 year old man were made with the help of alcohol. As as young student at University of Idaho, I was a small, meek, stoic introvert trying to find my path through the beginnings of adulthood. The party culture was still very much alive in 2004-2009 when I was there. Huge house parties happened every weekend whether it was with my fellow fish and wildlife classmates, snowboard club peeps, or random people I met freshman year in the dorms. There wasn't drugs, marijuana was usually relegated to a small group that smoked up a room or outside with eachother, and making friends was easy. It never felt unsafe or repetitive. It was fun, and it was how we bonded together. When people assume i must LOVE beer, and that's why i started my own brewery, they're wrong. I enjoy beer, I do love the taste and how it makes me feel, but the thing that I actually LOVE is the atmosphere and social bonding it creates. Try drinking a beer you love in a basement alone vs drinking a beer on a sunny day sitting riverside with a few good friends and you'll see what I mean. Recently the FDA changed their recommendations regarding alcohol for adults. They now recognize that social health is a thing that shouldnt be ignored. I also saw this clip from Scott Galloway on Mahers podcast that I found really interesting. Thoughts? https://youtu.be/BeTLZasgWS4?si=mE2hc0gIkE3UX-fB

I feel the same way. The Tepes in Turkey are ancient gathering sites that contain some of the oldest records of “civilized” Homo sapiens on record. At these sites they found quite a bit of evidence of brewing technology and beer storage containers. So since the beginning of civilization, beer has been the primary thing that brought people together. I salute anyone who is rocking the sober life. But for humanity in the broad sense, cutting back on beer is like cutting back on agriculture or cutting back on community. It’s an integral part of who we are.
Brewers
Be Honest, how many of you would start your own brewery if given the option? Not be in charge of some else’s brewery, but real ownership?

I love the idea of some sort of nano brewery where I can be the friendly neighborhood beer supplier…as long as I don’t have to run a restaurant and I don’t have to sign any distribution contracts
