Today will be my peaceful (blissful) day
Have you seen the Walk for Peace sadhana of a small group of venerable Buddhist monks (and a spiritual dog), dedicating 120 days to walk from Dallas TX to DC? Their message is simple, the mindfulness practice of peace start with each of us. Their advice is steadfast that if we wake each day and write on a piece of paper...This will be my peaceful day....we can begin our sadhana to peace. Peace and bliss are interchangeable. Peace is a state of calm, compassion and tranquility. We define a state of bliss similarly, it a state of balance, ease and an open heart full of love. Both start within and expand infinitely. Follow their journey My hope is to walk with them in the next couple weeks as they pass near Charlotte NC. I'll share that experience with you here.

Why do we practice yoga?
Are you ready to start the new year exploring yoga and shedding the weight of the mind's illusions of what is true about yourself? Watch this short of Ramanand Patel, @Kathleen Wright's beloved teacher, and share your thoughts about his explanation about how to practice yoga.

Here Ramanand is offering a teaching from Shankara. Adi Shankara was a foremost Advaita Vedanta philosopher. It is my understanding that Neti Neti is given as part of a large system of understanding who we really are. The True Self. As the ego is often described as our best friend and our worst enemy it is worth the time to contemplate what we are not. Neti Neti I am not this I am not that. With this practice we relieve the burden to the mind, body, sense complex by dropping away the roles we identify with. Patiently let go of what the ego holds on to. I am not my job, I am not my financial worth, I am not my hairdo, and so on. Neti Neti Om Tat Sat
Notes on emotional stability
Emotional stability has many components and supporting structures. If we are to reach the steady and unwavering state of benevolent mind, we must practice daily to incorporate the Yamas and Niyamas into our lives. With these guidelines firmly established in our hearts and actions our Asana practice has true meaning.
Notes on twisting asanas
The rotation of the spine is called Parivrtta action. This twisting action is also called lateral rotation. The actions of twisting are first learned in Parivrtta Trikonasana (rotated triangle pose). For this class the asanas were chosen to learn the lateral extension easily. We look at twisting asanas and a few of the many modifications of twisting. As with all asana please leave several hours since your last meal before doing the twists. Twists are not recommended for pregnant woman and modifications should be approved by a professional if there are injuries to the spine. As you are practicing the asanas remember to let the breath move freely. Exhale to turn, inhale wait.
