Long Form v Shorts
I've been asked about this a few times, and I thought I'd just make a post about it. You can ABSOLUTELY do shorts. You can even get paid for doing shorts, the problem is multifaceted though
First, the learning curve for producing a good short is just as steep as the learning curve for longform, so you'll still have to "get good" at it.
Second, shorts monetization is still not fantastic for the amount of effort - you can still get monetized and you might even be eligible for monetization sooner than if you were dedicated longform, the problem is you'd be earning pennies on the dollar unless you could guarantee millions of views per short.
Third, the most successful shorts creators are those who outsource a lot of their work - meaning they pay an editor, they pay copywriters, they have a team. That's not part time. I think it's POSSIBLE to do shorts in your spare time, but it's not as likely to have the returns that long form will have.
I hope this was helpful, if you have any questions drop em below
