How do you ensure that you have career and business success in the long run? It’s simple, but not easy. I have worked with amazing business leaders and have never seen one that had a positive long term impact that didn’t put these in place. When you make decisions, do so with the priorities of #People, #Quality, #Productivity, #Cost. #PQPC. In that order, every single time. In your daily routine and the way you talk it’s easy to say the right things, but actually doing the right things can be difficult. Taking care of people can take many forms, such as ensuring people’s safety or being pleasant, or making things fun for everyone involved. Taking care of quality is relatively straightforward. Understand the customers expectations and meet or exceed them (preferably exceed them and delight the customer) coincidently, our customers are also people so look at priority number 1. Taking care of productivity is a little more technical, this can take the form of continuous improvement or making things more efficient. Taking care of cost is the one that will ensure you turn a profit. Either you increase margin by creating more value and charging more, or you reduce the costs (inputs). It is a relatively simple equation that helps the bottom line by adjusting your parameters. It’s much harder to make good long term decisions if you don’t take to heart the values of putting people first, quality second, productivity third, and cost at the end. How do you make decisions?
